You don't use the tether of shame on the tanks in most situations, at least in dungeons? They run away, the fairie struggles to keep it up anyways. It's to heal people up who you just rezzed so everyone sees they screwed up. Tether of shame!

Jokes aside, first the gauge needs actual uses. Then there's any reason to discuss whether it starts full or not. Like most elements of modern Scholar, the entire fairy gauge reeks of "vestigial design no developer could be bothered to actually remove". And I mean that's a problem bigger than one specific healer role class or even one specific role, FFXIV is urgently due for both a full class revamp and a full combat revamp (which makes sense given its age, these issues were supposed to be handled incrementally like in other MMOs but have been pushed off here so now they have piled up). Still, fairy gauge is an especially egregious example because as Supersnow845 says, you overflow in gauge anyways, and it lacks a real use.

Now on paper since the fairy uses some abilities for us, it'd be sensible to have a resource system and in turn those abilities don't have CDs, they just need resource, and you get the resource from something that has an inherent CD in itself. You get 10 energy every 20 seconds. Or well 30 every 60 seconds. So for the current abilities, all they'd need to do is:

    * Fey Blessing and Whispering Dawn now cost 10 gauge.
    * Fei Illumination costs 20 gauge.

In return those no longer have CDs. This of course doesn't quite because you'd just pool for Illum since it's so much stronger than the other abilities, but that'd be the general concept. But again we kinda first need a general class and combat rework.

(edit: And we need someone to make the forums use markdown -.-)
