All I know is this:

It didn't used to be forced by MSQ. And back when it wasn't forced by MSQ, it was still usually CT. And that's why we reasoned it was just because out of 24 people, 1 of them is bound to be leveling a level 50-59 job.

In a similar way, Normal Raids roulette is almost always Fist of the Father. Because out of 8 people, the lowest level job in the matching system is probably 60-69, dragging all the higher level ones into the only raid they can be matched into.

The difference with Normal Raids roulette is you can't argue Alexander is required by the MSQ.

Back then it was mostly CT because:
A - The pool of available raids was smaller
B - People where ilvl cheesing en masse to the point you almost always saw someone switch gear in the duty

Only Fist of the father is also subjective imo.
I get 8 man raids across the board with most being Shb and DT actually. The 8 man raids are way better spread out across the board.

I think the complaints about the Alex raids being so common is less prevalent is simply because they're fast. The devs have mentioned years ago that they considered making Eden MSQ, meaning they want to use Gaia. It'll turn the 8-man series into an Eden farm just the same.

I really wish they would have the balls to just use things from the optional content for MSQ and tell everyone who refuses to do them to suck it up and complete them if they want to experience the entire story or find another solution because it's becoming ridiculous with all the tiptoeing.

Again, that was how it was for ShB for most of it until 5.3. I liked having those extra scenes for doing old content. I liked G'raha a lot from ARR before his promotion in ShB, being one of the first side characters I got attached to since I was so into CT during ARR's patches, and it was cool having our WoL have so many instances where we could bring him up and then call his ass out when the reveal occured. I was also fun to go back and find context for those moments that you just miss.

I generally love having stuff like that since it feels more like our journey is personalized. Like how there are a couple scenes that acknowledge our leveled jobs. There's a scene in with Zero and Ryne where Gaia can come in at the end, but she is completely absent if you haven't done Eden. And at this moment, Yoshi-P has encouraged players go do Alo-alo Island as there is some stuff that it gives context to in the patch next week.

well, they could put a message at the start of an expansion saying you might miss context without having done eden.

this way people can chose if they wanna do old questlines to enjoy the msq fully without actually making it mandatory.

i personally think its a missed opportunity if they just ignore any side content and the npc's in it. it makes the world feel less connected.

I have to disagree. Although Alexander is slightly more common, it's a healthy mix and often times you'll also get the current normal/alliance raid. One could think that if CT was not obligatory, we'd see Jeuno and San d'Oria slightly more often. Especially earlier in the week, your chances of being thrown into yet another Howling Blade match skyrocket if you're max level.
Lately, I've been lucky enough to visit Ivalice and even Mhach more often. This is what I'd like AR Roulette to be, doing just CT over and over is so boring...

If the CT and Mhach raids were properly scaled, they'd both play closer to and take as much time as the Ivalice and Twelve raids. I played both series as current content and the current takes are both broken messes.

It's not even all of CT and Mhach, though. World of Darkness is "mostly" fine (Cloud of Darkness gets hit way harder than the other bosses for some reason), and Dun Scaith is ok. It's the first and second tiers of the raids that got obliterated by level sync.

The writers using Gaia and just going "if you want to know the background then do Eden or be happy with the chronicle book info" is not "twisting people's arms".

If players refuse to do content then it should be their problem if they miss out on the deeper meaning.

Raids aren't difficult content (though I know that difficulty is subjective) but basically simple trials.

In a story driven game they can and should use everything they have and with their new "character encyclopedia" they have the perfect excuse.
Otherwise we will simply end up just like with the trial storylines in that they will become part of the MSQ itself sooner or later.

Well, that's pretty strange because I would say that, at minimum at the same rates as CT in those stats (40% of the time) if not more, Normal Raids has been Fist of the Father since the introduction of the Normal Raid roulette. Only reason people don't care is because of how item level cheeses it very quickly so there is more memory of when they've got the other, longer raids.
