If you don't want to do DT relic, there's always crafted or Ex's weapons, which are p good, along with the usual tome weps for the min effort to gear up.

Also, if you wait like est 6-8 months later, SE will nerf early steps by boosting drop rates for demi-atmas for everyone to catch up on it too for glams.

It may come as a surprise, but people tend to have different likes and dislikes. What's work for you can be relaxing for others! Like others have said, if a minor and short RNG grind is just too much, you don't have to engage in the content.

Then why is the person that I quoted, who defends this, characterizes it as work?

You're aware that not everyone has a negative connotation with the word "work," right? It's pretty clear that, in context, the person you responded to sees this "work" as fulfilling and meaningful. Refer to my post, the one you're quoting, as to why this may be.

I don't want them to go back to tomes but this expansion really has the "worst of both worlds approach" They brought back the relic grind but they made it a one-time only step, but made it the most grindy, painful step possible for laughs, followed by tomes for all the other weapons. So as long as you've done the hard stuff once, it's just trivial to collect them all.

It goes right back to the same problem Endwalker had, when they make it easy to get all the Relics, none of them mean as much. Why do we need all the relics again?

I don't mind the split but the first step on each of these has been painfully slow, as a full grown adult with a 9-6 and responsibilities outside of FFXIV. The drop rate on the first step is pitifully small and the chances are not equally distributed throughout the Crescent map since some of the 'zones' have a lower amount of possible FATE spawns, and the second step is just tedious and provide far too little aether from the roulettes considering you usually get low level content in them and the aetherwells fill depending on the level of the content. RNG on top of RNG is always a bad system for goal oriented progress.

Just to repeat what someone said up above: Relics aren't mandatory

Want a shiny cool weapon you can be proud of? Get to work.
I actually threw away all my Mandervilles because they felt like carnival pity rewards.

Believe it or not: It's good to have content that takes time and effort. It's not even hard stuff to do.

No. We literally already have tome weapons. Relics are supposed to be an optional grind. If you don't like the grind, then don't do it. Nobody is forcing you man. Some of us enjoy a comfy grind and if you take that away (like the EW relics) we have nothing left. Meanwhile your tome weapons will always be there, why do you need another one?

First, "it's not everyone consider it work", then it's "ok but some people enjoy work". I can't wait for the next step in those goalposts' journey!
