While I agree it robs people of what was advertised as a unique reward that few would ever have, I strongly believe it should never have been a unique reward like that. The whole "top 100" thing put people off PvP because they knew there wasn't much chance. Even if you did PvP all day and won a lot of matches it was hopeless really. And in this casual game, going all day without eating or sleeping properly isn't exactly the norm, but even doing that wasn't enough to get into the top 100.
So, the whole time that went on, I felt robbed of these rewards as I boycotted the concept of it, waiting for the day SE saw sense and made the system we have now.
I understand it doesn't feel good, but consider this: most of the rest of the game is no different. You work really hard to get that Savage mount, progging up through the floors. Only for a sprout to unsync it a few years later and get it without effort. You farm Extremes, doing all those mechanics 99+ times when they still require relative precision, only for someone to unsync it without thinking with their FC a few years later with a buffed drop rate. You work really hard to get some other mounts and minions just for Occult Crescent to hand them out like candy. Not to mention the mounts sold for moogle tomes.
How I deal with all my work going to waste like that is to just hold that moment in the time that it happened. To me, a title like that means something, even if the people doing it now don't see a meaning in it because they just unsynced it or get it handed to them by a moogle. And they are stories I can tell. Also, I have new rewards/meaningful things by the time that happens.
