they should at least put old event items into the game. time limited to the christmas event every year. buyable at that christmas market they made. for quite a bit of gil though.
like that they would serve as a gil sink while making the market more interesting

so people have the choice between kinda cheap items in the store for RL money and timelimited expensive items ingame.



one thing im curious about though: how much would they have to increase the monthly sub if the shop disappears?

I doubt anyone in the community can answer that question factually with any real confidence.

However - I, personally, would actually be quite concerned if this were the case. We do know that FFXIV is SE's biggest cash-cow. We also know that much of the income the game generates via subscriptions doesn't get fed back into the game itself.
And whilst have no evidence to support this, popular opinion seems to suggest that the income the cash-shop generates does get fed back into the game itself.

Therefore I guess the question would be 'how much profit does the cash-shop generate' - because they'd pretty much have to account for that profit-loss into this theoretical sub-increase.

I believe yoshi said all the profit cash-shop make is going into the game's budget when they introduced cash store but its a long time ago so could be different now.
