You ignored the context of what he said.

A lot of people have been complaining "there's no content" because they don't do the content that they release, because it's either "too difficult" or "too easy".

So what he said was that the content will have variable difficulty. And because of that, it removes the need for two versions of some content, since the difficulty of the one fight is variable.

If they are applying this to variant dungeons as they say, it removes the need for criterion because you can just scale up the difficulty of the variant enemies and increase the amount of mechanics that they do.

I don't think this bit applies to V&C well since one is more of a go-with-the-NPC chill thing and the other one is a dungeon tuned up to be hard. Unless putting it on the hard mode removes the NPC entirely but then I wonder how they'll implement that.

They have said repeatedly they will be doing a Pilgrim's Traverse-type system for Variant, and also said it in the link.

Then I guess the NPC will go poof once you input that you want the hard mode.

What baffles me is that they continue to talk about difficulty... difficulty is not the core of the problem, it's a consequence of the main problem, which is that they removed every piece of content with shelf life when they removed field operations, and the new one doesn't do the trick, because it only has interest if you plan to do the high difficulty raid. Relics were a worthy carrot at the end stick for field operation, but some gear that will be outdated next patch isn't. Especially when between 70 and 90% of the player base will never touch the high difficulty content.

They have to stop forcing people into high difficulty content, and give a content with shelf life that most player can participate in. Simple as that. Removing the field operation was not a problem, but not replacing it with a content that serve the same goal was. It's it has several difficulty levels and is one time and never again, it's useless. Variant dungeons proved that. Yet they keep digging in that direction. Repeating the same content 100 time to get a mount is fun only to a few players. As imperfect as they were, Eureka and bozja brought a social component that's mostly absent from OC. While repetitive gameplay wise, every session felt different, because you ended with other players, and the rythm was slow enough so you could speak with them.

A mmo without content with shelf life is a dead mmo. They have to remember their core audience is the mmo players, they're ones that will stay and teach to other, they're the ones that have been there for so long.

It baffles me that they got to a point every mmo in the market wish they achieved to attain, and destroying their own game with their poor management and poor understanding of the genra...

The issues, if we're being generic about it, are:
    - Content is made extremely simple and shallow, predictably so, in an effort not to confuse casual players; the result of that is it lacks enough depth to be replayed for 10 years or to sink your teeth into.

It's probably why in 2025, almost the only replayable content anyone could think of is PvP, S rank spawning and certain activities in the Gold Saucer (and a lot of that is due to PvP with TT, chocobo racing, Doman Mahjong, verminion if anyone plays it).

    - The amount of abandoned and underwhelming systems, such as FATE and hunt sync, that need improving is baffling when it would so obviously take a short amount of time to improve them. There isn't even so much as an attempt. Bloated menus can attest to that.

I'd be okay with this actually.
