I don't know how coding works but unless they make it account bound, I don't know if it would work. I know people have issues with the idea because it makes people fight more over rewards for their alts, so there's two things they could do. Make it 'account bound' or mailable to alts (you can't do that now) per single item, which would make people grind more for their alts but cause an increase in competition (which is what people have an issue with). Or every reward is earned on every alt.
The first idea would get people to play way more and while it'd make them grind/repeat content, they could do so on their main and not need to run through the story for the 10,000th time. But it would make more competition for the rewards.
What do I prefer?
Either, really. Either solution would make me play the game a huge amount more, because then at least it's not stuck on my main.
If you want far more people to do things constantly, though, one single item that's 'account bound' you can use 'once' on any character is the solution (that is market prohibited but tradeable only to your alts). It'd be 'nicer' to have the second option, but if you want to repeat content and get the same thing for a different character, you'd do that content again on your 'main' and thus - more people playing.
I don't think those with altS (Well, I can't speak for everyone) would complain if that simple system was a thing. How viable is it? Not sure. Is it more viable than 'total account bound'? One would think, it does seem a ton easier than a 'journal' like in WoW.
The huge issue there I think people would have with it though is again... 'more competition' but that comes with more people actually playing and doing the content. Theoretically you should assume everyone is trying to get [xyz] reward anyway so... I really don't see the issue with 'more people doing the content thus more competition' since it'd just have happened anyway.
