As sad as it is, Japan will not move away from consoles. Eventhough playing MMO's with them is absolutely insane in my opinion from a design point of view unless it's a very old MMO that is not getting updates.
It took them eons to move away from floppy disks, and they are still using fax machines. I bet if we sent them letter feedback it would be answered faster than any sort of forum post or email. Heck, faxed in player feedback would probably be fixed the very next day!

They're ending support for Windows 10 because Microsoft will no longer be providing updates for the operating system. NVIDIA are also ending Windows 10 support in their GPU drivers during 2026 (not seen anything regarding AMD or Intel GPU drivers). Square Enix don't really have a choice in the matter here. You can choose to not upgrade to a newer version of Windows but sooner or later, XIV and other games will stop working on Windows 10.

MMOs have always been CPU limited games and the PS4 has a CPU that's much weaker than the minimum requirement they list for the PC version. In terms of real world performance, FFXIV on PS4 has been very rough this expansion and even if they fixed every piece of spaghetti code, the PS4 is still 12 year old hardware that just isn't cut for this MMO in the graphics overhaul era.

How powerful is the CPU on a PS4? My guess is that it'll easily be able to handle the graphical demands forever and ever, but idk about the CPU demands. Those are pretty high depending on where you are and what you're doing (so it's extremely variable too. Could run like silk in a player house, and like a powerpoint during a hunt train or an alliance raid). If I was going to wager a guess, I'd say were years away from the end of PS4 support if the day ever comes. A heads up would be good so people who use the hardware have time to make a migration since it's not exactly viable for some folks to just buy a new console for a single game.

It won't soon when it only has 8 GB of shared RAM/VRAM when the average gaming PC today has 16 GB that's going to creep up to 32GB by the end of the decade as well as the newest generation of consoles. Plus, the snail speed HDD of the PS4 really suffers when trying to load into a zone during a hunt train where the marks are dead before you finish loading in. All PS5/XBOX Series have a SSD, so slow speeds are not a thing for those consoles. So I also believe the rumors that this is the final expansion for the PS4 and will be dropped by 8.0.

lol i agree bro xD imagine playing a massive mmorpg on console like gw2 and wow level then SE wants to compete this game as top 3 most critically acclaimed mmo with pc master race level? I think they should sacrifice the cross platform to increase the power system of the game

with a bad code base like that, ofc it can't.

I had to buy X3D cpu to fix ffxiv performance. While Cpu on PS4 is barely exists at all.

The PS4 CPU is effectively a tablet CPU from the era when AMD were drastically behind Intel in real world performance. The saving grace for the PS4 was the 8GB GDDR5 memory pool and the mid-range AMD GPU. It's what eventually enabled Rockstar to make Red Dead Redemption 2 and Naughty Dog to make The Last of Us Part 2. It's an entire generation that had it's hardware determined by the initial iPad release making all shareholders think tablets would take over the computer, laptop and console markets. The first PS4 dev kits only had 2GB GDDR5. They did later move to 4GB GDDR5 before a relatively last minute increase to 8GB GDDR5 for the final retail spec.

If Square Enix weren't doing the graphics overhaul, which still isn't complete, they could keep releasing expansions for the PS4 until Sony stop them. However, given that PS4 users already miss out on the majority of the upgrades plus a noticeable decrease in performance all expansion, I suspect it's on the chopping block for 8.0. The hardware is over a decade old and lacks features of newer CPUs and GPUs that have become the standard in modern gaming. I appreciate that there's a pool of users that can't upgrade due to individual economic factors or due to regional pricing/availability, but that shouldn't stop or limit the wider game development.

    Maybe by 10.0, lol.

Let me put this in perspective... by the time they cut off support for the PS3, we were well past the point of things being so bad that effects, visual cues, and even the mobs wouldn't appear properly in instances and whatnot on the PS3.

I don't think people are being hateful. OP was just asking a genuine question because there are many people still playing on PS4 and I've met some people even recently that are. I've told them consistently they should plan to get a PS5 because they are really going to want the SSD, especially for large-scale content like hunts, Occult Crescent and large-scale raids.

But it is reasonable, from a date perspective, that:
    • PS4 released in 2013. By 2027, this will be around 11 years.
    • PS5 released in 2020. By 2027, this will be around 6 years.
So PS5 will be very old by then, nevermind the PS4!

To contrast that, PS1 released 1995 and PS2 released 2000. That was only 4 year gap + a few months. I saw people where I lived, at the time, upgrading pretty quick. One of them gave me their PS1 so that I had two.

I was skeptical how many players Xbox would bring to the game. I thought it was ridiculous to think we'd get some massive influx of players from Xbox that don't play on any other platform because I didn't see Xbox players as the type to play MMOs. But the truth is, I was wrong - I've met plenty of them in the game and on discord, and discord servers where I can see Members, many accounts with "Xbox" attached to them started joining around the time and it was a LOT. A good amount of them were not very discord savvy, most likely due to not using desktop discord, because obviously if they weren't playing this on another platform it's because their gaming life revolves around an Xbox.

You may be surprised just how good support FFXIV has for consoles though. People have always done Savage even on console, and even cleared Ultimates. While you might wonder how someone could possibly play with a controller, there are many controller players that wonder how someone could possibly play with a keyboard/mouse.

Yeah, nvm... you're actually right. They have some 2019 i7 as their recommended CPU for 1080p but that won't hold 60 even at that resolution.

Don't think they're optimizing that any time soon.
