The problem is that people are crowding Ul'dah A-zone, there is plenty of room if we spread out, so that is thier priority rather than annoy us all with the constant kicks.
It wouldn't be "constant" if they set the right period of inactivity for it. Even if you are booted off it is really that big of a deal? Holy crap, people will have to click their mouse three times. Clearly too much effort.

Then there's the fact that, for obvious reasons, we won't have to deal with things such as waiting periods when logging in. It's an easily implemented solution that would at the very least alleviate some of the stress the servers are going under, if not eliminate it completely.

That would be great, but I could have sworn someone had stated this isn't possible on the current server system.

To be frank, all of the shells that spend the majority of their time in Primals/Dungeons etc would be better served to set Gridania as their home base and NOT Uldah.

    Primals:
    1. You can now set the Gridanian Inn as a Return Point...so beat primal=free return to NPC
    2. It takes 15 minutes before you can re-enter a primal from a clear, therefore you return to the Inn, talk to NPC, goof around in town, fix gears etc. wait your 15 IN Gridania, then return to your homepoint which is the crystal closest to the primal.

Dungeons and AFKing look at my sexy gears
    1. Other than Cutters, Uldah isn't any closer than Gridania (or LL) to the starting points for dungeons. And even Cutters you can get to quickly with and airship+short chocobo ride if you really wanted to.
    2. As Garuda is the 'new sexy beast' to kill, showing off your gears is easier to do in Grid...there are even benches etc. around the Primal NPC solely placed there for the AFK crowd.
    3. Hyrstmill is in the shroud...

    Markets/Storage:
    1. Supposedly, with the joining of the markets, you will no longer need to be in Uldah to directly access the 'best' market. So you can shop from any town.
    2. You can get your 'Inn Storage' from any City.

Also, you can now buy/use company seals to get the 'warps' for Gridania...so they 'but it's so spread out' problem isn't even a problem anymore.

The only reason people stay in Uldah is to hear /sh's for parties...we have a Search. We all should use it more. However, that being said, there could be a case made for keeping Uldah as a general exping/spiritbonding/leveling up hangout spot. But for the folks who no longer need 'PUG' groups to get stuff done, Gridania is really where you should hang your hat.

According to Yoshida, this saturation problem will be a lot more manageable with the 2.0 servers, so they could even make it a temporary measure. Those people are indeed serving no purpose, they're just interfering with the server's capacity.
Perhaps a compromise?: Just display the NamePlates of AFK characters. Do not render the bodies until they move or reset their Status.

The in thing with MMOs is a 15 min time out, so ok all within 2hrs I wash the dishes (takes more than 15mins) I do have some food (along with cooking takes more than 15 mins) I take the dog out again can be more than 15 mins, and between these I play thats 3 times in 1hr (going with the MMO standard) I would need to log back in the fact is with server updates as needed and ensuring they will not go over capacity at peak hours you eliminate the need for a time out or login queues a world reaches that point you order parts for it easy.

If SE does this at 2.0 there will be no need for this, also if people leave Ul'dah A-zone and spread around Gridania and Limsa there will be no need for this /airquotes feature /airquotes because there is plenty of room on the server, just people cram Ul'dah, its why Yoshi-P is trying to move people around the world. I for one love Ul'dah and I will be staying there, even if another city (Ishgard excluded) becomes the main hub, its why I stared there and why I joined the flames.

You should have the system login message when you enter the game urging people to try out using the player search and party recruitment features, with addresses for the appropriate lodestone Play Guide page. If more people used them people wouldn't stand in the same spot looking for shouts and probably hang out in their favorite town.

Or you could just log out when you're doing those things. Again, not a lot of effort.

You talk about how everyone needs to do their part to solve this problem then immediately state how you're going to stay in Ul'dah. If you want to try to justify posing around town then fine, I can't stop you. Everyone is free to play the game however they want. Just know that you aren't contributing toward the solution at all by doing so.

I have already moved my things back to my beloved homeland of Limsa. 1 small step for Galkas, one giant leap for new players.

I've been living in Gridania for over a month now and I moved my retainers to Grid as well when they announced the Market Ward changes. Ul'dah was my starting city but I really wanted Grid to be, but during open beta Ul'dah was the least laggy on my crap pc at the time because most people went to LL and Grid. If I had known everyone was going to move to Ul'dah at game launch, I would have started in Grid like I originally wanted to lol

I'm just glad I get to live there now and not miss anything ^^

Any update on this? The patch was deployed several days ago, I have a friend eagerly awaiting joining my server (Aegis).
