MCH should have competed with melees in Endwalker for sure, and BLM slightly above. Unless one believes that positionals justify a 10% tax, when the game has stacks for True North. Now good luck asking SE to review the ranged tax.

I would also like to point out that any raid strat automatically goes for melee uptime, so they very rarely have to actually disengage from the boss for mechanics.

You know you can just say the current state of MCH (and to a degree the entirety of phys ranged) sucks without antagonizing everyone else. Besides it's not like numbers matter all that much when MCH plays like it's been half heartedly reworked 6 years ago and then left in the closet to rot.

When most of the reasoning behind MCH never being allowed competitive DPS you hear is basically "because it'd lock out a melee slot" it's kinda hard not to, especially when said role keeps getting buffs and haven't had particularly terrible uptime issues.

The idea that MCH is less competitive (on standard single target bosses) than its rphys counterparts is relatively wrong for once this tier (unlike all of Endwalker). It's rphys that's in the gutter as a whole.

I mean I've not seen 7 or 8 yet, but neither 5 nor 6 are "standard single target bosses". Quite far from it. So maybe we need a better metric anyways, like "class feel" or "fantasy realization" (where MCH fails so hard it could serve as a "Don't do this"-topic at GDC, only rivaled by how wet-noodle BLM has been basically since forever when it's meant to be the big scary handling unstable powers boom boom mage).

What do you mean 5 isn't a standard single target boss?
I'm specifically using this example where MCH shows competitive within the rphys bracket, if we talk about pure numbers. It's in the gutter in 6 though, because it is, indeed, not a single target fight.

People need to be told that defending the weak state of machinist is wrong. I was being extra aggressive with my words to express my pent up frustration to the moronic arguments against buffing machinist. This dev team has no idea what's wrong with machinist and have literally just nerfed its aoe. If people's feeling somehow got hurt by this post then I'm sorry but its a nerd rant on an online game forum. You know you can just say the current state of MCH (and to a degree the entirety of phys ranged) sucks without antagonizing everyone else. Nah I get you. I think the current state of MCH and phys ranged as a whole is... certainly something. There are a lot of underlying issues that have been well summarized by another post here (like auto crossbow being a gain on 5+ targets, not resetting DC/CM, flamethrower being the way it is, Queen and wildfire not cleaving and others)People need to be told that defending the weak state of machinist is wrong. If anyone defends the current state of MCH, I doubt they even touched it in the last 3 expansions... but hey... neither did SE apparently.

I seem to have been baited by fflogs. M5S if anything seems to be the oddity, and MCH doesn't seem to perform as well in 7 and 8. All the more reasons to fix this dumpster fire of a job anyway.
