Ah, the good old debate between reformism and direct action. Didn't expect it to crop up on the XIV official forums though.Oh please... What a stretch. The sekiseigumi are law enforcement, they don't make the laws, they enforce them.
Corruption exists in every facet of society, that doesn't give anyone the right to go around committing murders. Ugetsu was an extremist who committed atrocities. Next thing you'll tell me, Luigi Mangione was justified too.
And this comes back to the WOL was there for Musosai and Momozigo, not to change the way Oriental society operates.
Bwahahahaha
It wasn't a peasant rebellion. It was a coup by a bunch of people who glorify war and want to plunge Hingashi into another 600-year-long conflict by conducting one bloody assassination after another because of their belief that war will "cleanse" Hingashi of corruption and decadence. Ugetsu's plan neglects the fact that enacting a new Age of Blood will just create a situation exactly like the one that put the corrupt bakufu in power at best and rip Hingashi into factions under warlords and bandit leaders at worst. He has no plans to establish a new government to keep the peace and reform Hingashi after the current government is put into disarray. He assumes that it'll all just work out by equating strength with able leadership.
This is in stark contrast to the wars to free Ala Mhigo and Doma that we supported because we have able leaders with actual plans to restore government and order while enacting reforms to improve the lives of the populace. Ugetsu is a warmonger who idealizes conflict and has no plan to keep Hingashi from falling to pieces and the commonfolk from suffering when war breaks out. That's why we oppose him.
You just described today politics and people. Her motivations were completely self-serving. For all her talk of freedom and tyranny of the state, it only served to have her followers become their worst possible selves, becoming the very tyrants she claims she wants to overthrow. All she wants is to be able to due whatever she wants with no consequence, no matter who it screws over. Freedom that harms others is not freedom at all.
Maybe it could've been written with a bit more nuance, I'll allow. However, I think the idea was was to make seem sympathetic at first, but once you clear out the honeyed words and talking points, her real reasons for doing what she does are stupid, and maybe you wonder if you were stupid for falling for it.
I've yet to do the quest but i can understand why people would hate such quest and if it's truly like people described i will avoid it like the plague because i refuse to play an idiot getting manipulated, if i wanted to see or do that i wouldn't play FF14 instead i would just watch TV or follow some overarrogant streamer defending elon musk hand salute.
I hope they change it to at least allow us some better dialogue choice in it, it's a RPG after all and i don't want to roleplay an adventurer that still get manipulated like a novice even after 13 years of adventuring fighting the worse of the worse, doesn't make any sense...
That's the funny part. Your WoL -doesn't- fall for it. The dialog choices boil down to basically "You'll pay for your crimes.", or "People like you should go to jail.". Maybe people are upset that their WoL is smarter then them? You just described today politics and people.

I feel like this isn't the first time where there has been a disconnect between the WoL's words/actions and the player, that it usually happens in cutscenes. Whatever it was, I recall some theory cropping up around the time that the Warrior of Light character, both the one used for marketing and what the player makes, is actually not a blank slate. Think it was sometime in Endwalker or Shadowbringers where such a theory came up.
i mean, if there's someone that has have had enough experience dealing with actual legitimate people wanting to change the system for the better, and petty would-be tyrants who use people's dissatisfaction with the system to further their own selfish ends to the point where they can tell if a person is being genuine or not right off the bat, it's the WoL.I feel like this isn't the first time where there has been a disconnect between the WoL's words/actions and the player, that it usually happens in cutscenes.
