There is no solid rule saying hairstyles should never be in different types of content. I had to go out of my way to do harder content that I was not a fan of to get things I wanted, and it honestly isn't much different with this hairstyle. The hairstyle also has a easy way to obtain it by buying it off the marketboard. Its just like buying a mount off the marketboard. Its expensive, but people can work their way up to getting it if they truly wanted it. 50 mil already went down to 10 mil. Would you like to do a ultimate to get a shiny weapon to wear in town? Wear the dyeble gear from the latest savage tier to look pretty? Cosmetics by no means was never just meant for JUST casual content, or cash shop. Just because its different (aka, hairstyle) doesn't mean it had a unhidden rule that it should only be for casual content, or the shop. This is just being made up by a part of the community who don't want to commit. -shrugs-
The problem is not the types of content that it comes from, but rather the shelf life of the content where it is from, again, historically large-scale content has never had the best shelf life, and this content will be no different in the fact that it will be on life support with Discord, probably before we even reach the needed item level sync, and IMO, if you are locking character customization behind content, then the content would need to at least have the shelf life to always be accessible. It's well and good it being OK right now, but in several months when you only have 3-4 runs weekly, exclusively organized via Discord, that may or may not take tens of runs to get. A lot of people being OK with it at the moment are OK with it virtue of the fact it takes them 1-3 runs at worst to get the hairstyle. There is no solid rule saying hairstyles should never be in different types of content. These people would have as much of an issue if they put it in something casual like maps under similar circumstances to the Aidoneous minion as to what has been seen with the current situation of putting it behind a savage 24-man. It's not just cuz they want something for nothing, because there are legitimate concerns with this content long term. Exacerbated by the fact of a game that already has atrociously limited character customization. Ironically you wouldn't have as many complaints if people actually had faith in this content not being dead in PF by March, or if the game actually... You know... Had more flushed out character customization options. There is no rule obviously, but if a game has notoriously low character customization options, then it isn't the most practical solution to have them behind something with low shelf life. Ironically, you could go as far to say they could have released this hairstyle behind 1-2Mln MGP, and people would not take as much issue with it, because the shelf life of that content is always there.
Also this outcry is similar to the outcry seen in HW when they released the Coven weapons behind Emergency Missions in Diadem, which had prospective of BiS, seeing as they are 280 at the time. So this issue isn't as simple as you might want to suggest it is, and nor is it exclusive to people who "don't want to commit".
Interesting, a lot of the complaints about the Axolotl weren't that it was cute and locked behind savage, bar that 1 meme thread. A lot of them actually stemmed from the fact it just didn't fit the Pandaemonium raid theme at all (Same issue as when they decided to put Shadow Wolf on Mogstation as opposed to through BLU Mage completing Eden Raids). Even raiders were complaining about this, and no, people would not be radio silent about it, a dumb decision is a dumb decision, regardless of whether it's that kawaiiii hairstyle, or the hairstyle the curls that look like they came from MS Paint.Notice how no one ever says anything about rewards from hardcore content unless it's kawaii like flower hairstyle and axolotl? Y'all would be radio silent if it was ugly like criterion Quaqua or a male hairstyle.
I don't think it's about wanting it to be available to everyone (it already is btw), it's just having a little tantrum it's not automatically put in your inventory.
It's also less about it being available to everyone, and it's more about the fact that large scale raid content has historically had dreadful shelf life.

What do you count as large scale? Cause Eureka and Bozja were still pretty popular when I checked. Of course it will have lower player counts now with newer content just being released. But they were booming pre-DT.
Talking specifically about the large scale raids (Should've been specific here). BA/DRN(Somewhat)/DRS, as the lifecycle of Chaotic is more than likely going to follow a similar trajectory to these, wherein runs are largely, if not almost exclusively organized through Discord, as it's going to be easier to pre-schedule through there than it will to just plop up a PF for Chaotic and wait to get 24 people, especially when it is not the current content.
standard with most content it only last for a raid cycle or at best for the duration of the expansion, after that it's all just glam unsynced farming
Also seriously why care if a hairstyle is a reward from it, it really isn't that hard to get. Though i went for my mount first, coz priorities
To be fair both BA and DRS are locked behind grindy field exploration content. They're also twice as large as 24-man raid groups. I feel like Chaotic would still be more accessible down the road.Talking specifically about the large scale raids (Should've been specific here). Both of these can be done with significantly less players than desired. To put it into perspective, BA can be cleared with just a single party of 8. DRS can also be done with players under 24. That 'grindy' field exploration content is also some of the most successful content in the game in terms of player uptake, so yes, whilst it is a grind, it is a notoriously accessible. Of 237,495 tracked by public achievement data, more people had the achievement for getting through DRN, than players that have done Titania Extreme, despite the former being more of a grind.
Maybe it will, maybe it won't, I just personally think there is more to indicate that the content and rewards will be less accessible down the road, rather than more accessible. At least until they inevitably put them on Treasure Trove in 4 years. For what it's worth, I hope I am wrong about it and not right.
I don't know why ppl want always to make Eurake and Bozja sound so bad just bc they were grindy... I would kill for something kinda grindy right now. For both EW and the beginning of DT, I only log in prog savage or some other new hard fight but I have nothing to just relax and have in. The relic grind before EW is what kept me playing this game, working on stuff in both Eurakes kept me engaged in the game and let me do things outside raid nights. The fact we do have have anything to grind for is the problem with FF14 right now. Yes I know we getting another field exploration but it should been released in this patch and not CAR. We didn't need yet another savage-level content, we just got Ultimate just a month ago and Im sure ppl are still working on FRU. Either way yes BA and DRS may be locked behind a "grindy field exploration" but that's not a bad thing, it gave ppl something to work on and a reason to play the game.
