Given the hair is tradeable, you can buy it off the marketplace anyway. There is no reason to give raiders nothing though.
They are normal players who play an mmo to get something out of it. No reason to deny them rewards for them.
The hairstyle I agree is kinda too much or at least in the sense that it's the only good looking one in since... Island sanctuary?
Exclusive armor, shiny weapons, titles and mounts though I side with snow and the others that it is completely fine and correct to lock them behind the harder content and frankly almost no one has a problem with it.
Even the Axlotl mount that is brought up here. What was the outcry? Twitter?
I frankly don't remember there being such a big one. A few voices sure like always but not much because frankly there are so many mounts in the game that it didn't really matter.
Hairstyles though are so few and a good junk in a cash shop that it feels far more impacting.
Even the casual player should be able to amount sufficient gil to eventually purchase it if they are determined.
Or patient until it becomes within their money range. Whatever comes first.
Honestly, I don't even know what could be put on the MB from Crit duns...most of the rewards were meh to begin with I feel. All I know the only thing I wanted from Crit duns was the glowy versions of the tombstone weapons in the last one that came out and I know you cant buy that. As for CODCAR being unsync, we honestly don't know what the devs plans for the long term for this type of fight and Im not going to assume they will make it super easy or not to farm in the future.
That may be true but some of us are thinking about the future not the right now. Sure the hair can be gotten from the MB and there are probably a bunch of them where the price is being driven down BUT what about 6 months to a year from now? I can tell you that this fight doesn't have what it takes to last that long esp with how its reward system works. One reason you see a lot of hair on the MB is that the fight is new and ppl getting that first-time bonus. This means that grinding the currently to buy the hair only takes few clears but after the first timer is dried up and very few of them are left you looking at around 46 clears to just buy the hair, assuming you are not lucky and don't have it drop or win the roll on it. Im personally thinking about newer plays who come into the game 6 months to a year from now. They may see this hair and really want it but find there very few on the MB and the ones that are up on there are in the range of 50-100 mil. They try to run CODCAR but find ppl just don't run it anymore and it's a chore to even get a party together(since it requires 24 ppl) to teach them the fight and clear it 46 times. Hairstyles are very important since the character creator sucks in ff14, you have very few options in making your character and hair is one thing you have options for. On top of that, it's so rare for us to get a really nice hairstyle so having it locked in a 24 raid that is around savage levels and also has a short shelf life sucks and I don't agree with it at all. If this fight needed another reward on top of the 2 mounts, 730 gear(BiS), and minion then add something else maybe a 3rd mount or a glowy version of the tombstone weapon(like they did for the last crit dun) but not a hairstyle.
This. I couldn't agree more. I consider myself casual and would rather craft, gather, farm, and see some returns, than to spend (read: waste) time on failed progging, while I could have been doing something fun. Not to mention how the hairstyle isn't a guaranteed reward either, so even if that progging would lead to a kill, enjoy mindlessly farming it until you have it. (This goes both ways of course, as what I consider wasting time here, a raider would call my content a waste of time.)
Now I'm not sure if this is a design philosophy to make high-end content more appealing to players, but if it is, it's really a delusional one. I am not going to get frustrated progging something for a hairstyle. I do something I think is fun, no matter what reward they put behind high-end content. I'll just spend my millions on it and see how far below gil-cap it'll set me. That way I do the content I enjoy, raiders do the content they enjoy, and we help each other in the process. (And thus, while I want it, I've come to terms I won't get the Axolotl mount until I can unsync it or have another way to obtain it. I think having a dynamic between the different ways people play the game more often would work a lot better as well.)
And like Kaurhz above me pointed out, even a casual can amass 100-200 million gil if they wanted to. I think the biggest issue here is people wanting free hand-outs, without doing anything in return. That will never work and it's never going to happen either.
It's just weird to read this thread, with people being like "BUT I'M A PAYING CUSTOMER", like either you're trolling me, misrepresenting that complaint or something?
Like in any other game, if you can't get an ultimate weapon because the requirements demand you beat an optional boss that you, personally, aren't skilled or willing enough to beat, do you threaten to ask for a refund?
I think you're missing a huge point here though. Those weapons are just prestige and 9 out of 10 times casual players who enjoy glamouring more than raiding wouldn't even use those. They look fully out of context, don't match with most outfits, and most people who care about that hide their weapons anyway. Now character customization is a different thing entirely. It's part of character identity, being able to envision your character the way you want to, and something that you want to see. Comparing a hairstyle to a weapon is comparing apples and oranges, especially when you consider how awfully limited character customization in XIV is. There are B-tier mmorpgs who do a way better job at it, while XIV should be considered an A-tier mmorpg in my opinion. It's just weird to read this thread, with people being like "BUT I'M A PAYING CUSTOMER", like either you're trolling me, misrepresenting that complaint or something?

So the content can have rewards as long as you personally don't like them?I think you're missing a huge point here though. No, but I do think there's a difference in the type of reward. Put a really awesome outfit or mount behind savage and I'll be just fine with it. (Can't have the Axoloth, but hey! I have super cute capybara!) I'll find an alternative. Why is that? Because there are plenty of different outfits and mounts in the game. It's not like that with character customization. That is something this game is very... well, calling it limited is actually glorifying it.
I assume you're someone who enjoys raiding and getting BiS, right? (Correct me if that's wrong!) Now let's make that gear obtainable through raiding, but to make it BiS, you'll need all crafters at 100 and use them to craft several HQ crafts, with items that can only be gathered by yourself. Tell me you'd be fine with that, please.

We already have that in the Golden Saucer, where you need to dish out MGP to get hairstyles, this is even more accessible since all you need to do is get the Gil to get it. This is additional customization you get from PLAYING the game. I just don't see the difference, honestly.I think you're missing a huge point here though. To me it's kind of insane that you guys are complaining about not being able to get it, you can get it, just do the content, or pay for it with your Gil.
The biggest difference in all honesty is that Gold Saucer is the most long-standing content in this game. By comparison a 24-man chaotic trial could very well more than likely be dead in-game and on life support with Discord before March. We already have that in the Golden Saucer, where you need to dish out MGP to get hairstyles, this is even more accessible since all you need to do is get the Gil to get it. If you are going to lock character customization options in a game already notoriously bad for character customization, then you better at the very least be able to make sure the content is able to lend itself to being long-form.. Regardless of the difficulty of that content, and not indirectly punishing players that end up doing the content later on in the patch cycle.

It will be. Gathering enough people to do Extremes or Savage is a pain already, or so they say? 24-man will be dead within a few months, unless you use a dedicated discord.
Edit: Especially if you take in mind how this doesn't have a weekly lock-out, so the people who really want to deck themselves out with the gear rewards will simply farm it.
