And then you have to build the submarines and it takes a couple of years for them to start making decent gil.

That said, crafting really is an easy way to make gil. I've never used a macro, and I never make current level gear. Just spend 10 minutes looking at what is selling on the MB for a decent price.

Yeah if it's taken them years they've been on the sauce for at least 75% of it. Getting them all to max level does take years but they'll be bringing in plenty of jewellery before that. Not even sure there's a measurable difference in amounts once you get past level ~79, but the extra speed helps.
