I do think it would be worthwhile to expand Dreamfitting into a catalogue of all gear that exists in the game so people can look up things like dungeon sets, but it would still be a separate function from the glamour dresser which tracks what you own and insert into it.
My main point is that the usual argument against a glamour catalogue is all the data storage, the challenge of pulling all the gear and having it display on your avatar, etc. etc. - but the dreamfitting feature does it all already.

The actual process of glamouring is already in the game with the glamour dresser, we just need to basically smash the two together and hey presto.

Except it isn't doing that, because it doesn't have to store any data at all about your personal inventory and which things you own.

The crafting log, gathering log and fishing log already store data of thousands of items and whether we have collected them or not. I don't see why a glamour log couldn't do the same. Then we could pull appearances to glamour plates from there when using the dresser.

No, you are correct. But the glamour dresser does already. Your inventory does already. Hell, it's no different than the achievement log painstakingly monitoring every single digit as you creep to 10,000 kills or 1,000 fates or whatever. It all ends up the same in the backend.

The whole 'data storage' problem is as simple as - a list of gear - 1 = they own, 0 = they don't own. Anyone thinking it's a legitimate concern is kidding themselves. They could implement this system in 3 months if they chose to. They're just too far down the rabbit hole with the current system to be honest that it could be different.

I'm beginning to think especially lately, the devs just don't want to do anything that requires more effort than the status quo.

Yes, those things do track whether you own items or not – but they have a limit on how many things they can track.

The inventory and dresser can track what you own, but can't track and show every item at once.

The Dreamfitting menu can show every item at once because it doesn't need to track what you own.

Those two facts do not add together to equal "the dresser is already capable of both showing and tracking an infinite amount of items".

Do they NEED to have a limit though? Or is it just an arbitrary number they choose?

Currently they don't show everything, that doesn't mean they can't in the future.

Again, do you have a source for that claim? The dreamfitting menu does show every item at once. I don't recall seeing a popup saying 'this is possible because we don't need to track things'. Nor do I ever recall a statement supporting that.

You are adding your own limitations to the systems we have. We're like 90% of the way there with multiple separate systems in the game at present. It isn't a leap to suggest they can be put together to make something work. This is also backed by the fact that other games have achieved this very thing nearly a decade ago.
