There is absolutely no reason for the tome cap even to exist in the first place. So what I want to farm 24/7 and gear all of my roles with BiS that has actually no 'real' value beyond fun and doing the fights using different roles.

How is it different from logging in 1 day/ week vs being active and not logging in after for a time? I would very much like the developer not to treat me like a child who needs their hand constantly being held and told what I am and not allowed to do with my own damn time and money.

    Money. That's the difference

Without a weekly cap, the already sparse content would be well stretched beyond its breaking point. It means stuff like say, the 24 man releasing next week has literally zero value. After all, how can it serve as catch up if there isn't a tomestone cap necessitating the need to "catch up" in the first place? They need a way to keep you subbed. Which, to be fair, would remain true even if we were overflowing with content. No developer can keep up with how quickly players complete content. Case in point, that 24 man likely took a month or two to fine tune and test yet will be over with in 40 minutes. For a subscription based game, there always needs to be some form of progression limitation.

    Incorrect answer.

If the gear is the main motivator for doing this, there is nothing keeping you from unsubbing and returning when there is an echo and the tier is unlocked.

The main motivator is the fun and enjoying to the fullest what the new expansion/add-on has to offer.

Side note, you can already complete every piece of content out there with just the crafted gear that has been available and needs no tome farming nonsense. (well it does need some tomes but not near to what you need in order to be BiS)

    This.
The devs are perfectly fine with people taking breaks from FFXIV, it's been said by the man Yoshi-P himself in several interviews.

And as has been repeated, that means very little. Saying you're OK with people quitting the game for however long, does not negate criticism. It does not negate poor critical reception, journalist commentary, declining revenue, etc. It is an empty platitude.

And before you say "Well the game still exists and it gets updates", yes we are aware. Except between job feedback and content the fails to cover the spread of player skill sets (RP up to ultimate raider), various players are finding themselves unable to justify the sub.

Telling people to unsub, not play etc doesn't work if you're the owner or just a regular person on the forum. It's a non argument. The literal purpose of a game is to entertain people.

I'd also argue if Yoshi P actually meant for people to just unsub, he wouldn't hold people hostage with houses or charge a sub at all. So this altruistic facade is seemingly just that.

I'm also aware you're not really arguing this, but the fact he says this is annoying to me.

Tome cap is ok. However the cap should be raised every week rather than the fomo you have to get x each week.

Yeah that's a good point. It was effectively the 450 cap that stopped me trying Savage. When I had a chance to join a group and try it, my main job was already taken.
Why they bother with the cap at all given that only applys to people who already are the only people who actually also have content to keep them there anyway.

imho tome gear should be an unlock feature.
Pay 825 tomes, you can grab the tome chest item for every class similar to how you can pick up the AF gear since ShB. Keeps the cap working, allows you to gear your alt classes.
