The saddest part about this is you can clearly see the change in Yoshi. He used to understand the player's base much better, and by that I mean on a psycology level. But this is just ... it's not even about being out of touch, more like irrationally naive.

Let say we give them a benefit of the doubt and WL gonna be written better ... even if that is a "fact", what would be the perception of it? Let's face it, while most people wouldn't want to admit it, the fact is most don't want to be wrong, or change opinion on something they feel strongly about. WL wasn't just a small oppsie (FF14 had that before, looking at you Lyse), she's practically a poison chalice at this point. If her writing is just a little better, it won't overcome the wall of negative bias against her. And if they pour large amount of resource to create a god tier writing for her ... those resource would still better spent in removing her from the story. That's why when something like this happen, you let thing cool down before trying again. This like trying to win an argument in a heat-exchange, because you being right or wrong hardly matter and thus the best decision is to step back and walk away.

Also, he can't claim this is listening to the feedback. The main complain about WL is not even about how plain her character is, but there is TOO MUCH of her. So saying "here is even more WL" is 100% not about listening to feedback, this is about saving the team's ego and vindicating themselves. Well, I guess at least this is sort of a good new for me. My sub already ran out last week and according to this interview, I won't have to remember to resub for most of the next year at all.
