Dawntrail Graphics Update - Eye Strain

actually came to the forums to see if this was a, just a me thing or if others have noticed - seems im not alone in this, also no amount of fiddling with gamma helps, for me the game is either far too bright or far to dark so always having to adjust it depending on location

my current setup (which may help others) max out the gamma setting in-game, then on your monitor/tv set brightness, contrast and gamma to 30 for bright areas and 35 for darker areas and if your monitor/tv gives you an option for sharpening, set that to 0 - for me doing that plus wearing sunglasses helps

I've recently noticed that I suffer from eye strain a lot more frequently too whenever I play FF14. I never made the connection and thought it's just due to too much screentime. But then I realised that I don't have the same problems even when I spend a lot of time playing other games, working on my PC or watching videos/shows.

I have low vision and astigmatism, and yes, this expansion I've been having problems too. I've tried tweaking things but it gets worse the longer I play. I even have an eyecare monitor but still I'm feeling the strain even more with Dawntrail than I ever have before. My eyes ache after playing in the evenings.

I'm in a similar boat with severe astigmatism. I've tried playing with my glasses on and off.

I've tried tweaking the settings. Nothing helps.

My eyes hurt. I've had to curtail my time playing FFXIV because of it.

And back to page 1 we go. This issue needs to be addressed and not ignored SE.


Finally did the Dawntrail raids recently and it was a chore. After clearing the 4th raid I felt super dizzy and my eyes were hurting. So I don't even need to consider doing savage at this point. And I only have problems with XIV since DT released. Any other game I can play just fine without needing painkillers or feeling physically uncomfortable. :/ As of now I am forcing myself to do something in the game so I have at least *SOME* gear for my jobs...

The 4th of the tier also makes me dizzy. They all make me feel bad in one way or another, but the 4th is the worst offender. I was also wanting to raid but decided to sit it out cause of everything making me sick. As a matter of fact, when I watched people progging savage on Twitch I also had to stop watching because that was making me ill too.

OK, further observations. It seems, that the camera jitter, which is needed for FSR 2/3 or DLAA/DLSS/TAA/TSCMAA/Xess is not applied on every new frame. This makes the blur effect worse, it makes the ghosting on moving objects worse and it generates a very visible flicker effect on certain objects.

I've been struggling with adapting to the graphical update, it's caused a few bouts of eyestrain and even motion sickness. I'm unsure if it's been mentioned, but one example of how extreme the bloom effect is now is at the Fury's Gaze monument in Coerthas Central Highlands.

I wish the development team would at the very least acknowledge the issues presented in this thread. Just looking at screenshots makes my eyes hurt.
