FF14 also can include gatcha char progression like "Do 15 times CT3 in order to gain 1 token and this token give you a 10% chance to upgrade your tome weapon from i720 to i722" but I dont think that actually real content^This.
I am playing 2 F2P games currently and spend around 20 - €30 a month on them combined. For what it's worth, they offer me a better value per money spent than FFXIV. I can log in for 30*min - 1h daily, make some progress and move on.
Truth be told, I got caught off guard and spent far too much money on one than I'm comfortable with, but that's the stupid tax. Learned my lesson after that.
Compared to 14, where I don't have any meaningful long-term progression for my character, so I log in maybe once every two weeks check on my retainers and log out.

Once again it’s hilarious how badly people miss the point
This isn’t about putting gacha mechanics in 14, it’s about gacha games which have larger swings in their revenue can somehow commit to more consistent content schedules with more content than 14
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
