Wow, Wuk Lamat is really single-handedly ruining the DT story...

I wanna learn about Koana, who he is when he's not around Wuk Lamat. I think that about sums up who I'm interested in in Dawntrail specific new characters.

Yes, not even Erenville. I think the attention he got wasn't because he's good, but because he's the least bad among a sea of terrible casts. It's not hard to look reasonable when standing next to someone like Wuk Lamat and a bunch of forgettable characters. But comparing to the like of Gogetsu, Yutsuyu and Hien, Erenville is a few leagues behind. Heck, I don't think he's even compared with secondary NPC like the Ruby sea or Azem NPCs. Also on a few occasion he overwrites the players with the "the WOL said no but they actually mean yes" writing, saying I'm not a fan of that is a polite understatement.


Koana from the beginning has been written as a nothing but a stepping stone for Wuk, his story progression at best doesn't make sense, and atrocious at worst. He's a plain character with the one single most noticeable trait is being a certified siscon. They're all mean to be the "devotee" type of NPC, but comparing Koana to the like of Gogetsu or Yugiri I don't think even make sense. If Gogetsu is an SSR devotee, Koana is like a generic upgrade fodder.

I don't know - I still look back very fondly on 'A Requiem for Heroes'. I really enjoyed that part of it.

To be completely fair in this case that was a patch.
Maybe 7.3 upwards the story will pick up again, at least I hope so.

Still I agree with the general opinion here that Stormblood was good looking back and the more I think about it the worse DT gets.

Stormblood had issues, I barely knew Yda and I know I didn't like Lyse
(but I also didn't start in Gridania, which according to some of my friends helped knowing her and Papalymo a lot more)

This. It always makes me laugh when people try to paint dawntrail as the worldbuilding expansion. Worldbuilding is so poor in DT, and what's given to us is so weak. I'm supposed to believe the moblins that have been doing their thing for 80 years don't know you should not put people near the fire, and don't know which food they like. It just doesn't work. This is just an example but I could do that for the whole first part. The second part has a slightly better world building, but it also has plotholes and people conveniently ignoring obvious hints to force a situation.

Like how the Hanuhanu genuinely didn't know the meaning of their festival or their boat being an aether conduit despite holding the festivity every year? Yes, they grew complacent and the boat wasn't maintained, that's info we're given to why their fields became stagnant, but here's the counterargument to that: there are people like Wuk Evu or the town leader (did she have a name?) who are fully aware what the problem is but stay silent for literally no reason, and besides, just how young are most of the Hanuhanu to not even know (not remember, know) the magic boat flares them up like a pokemon about to evolve to scatter the aether into the fields? are they all children or...?

To add insult to injury, in one of the aether current quests they do collectively play ignorant/antagonistic to teach the new guy a lesson about respect, tradition, etc. It's like both quests were written by entirely different people.

Don't know which country you're from, but I'm pretty sure you don't know the origin and meaning of every festivities in your culture, except maybe if you're from the USA, or another country which have only 300yo traditions at best... and even then, you still probably don't know most of what happened during the events you're celebrating. It's also pretty hard to believe your political leader/your top scientists aren't aware of some issues in your country you don't know about, because you knowing would not help in any way, and would only thin the trust you have in them.

Same for the Moblins really. It took more than 80 years to go from the first factories to decent work conditions.

That's just a case of "I really must find a reason to dislike that thing", and here's the thing : you don't have to have a reason. Just hate it because you don't like it. It's alright.
