Or should they use their talent and make something that looks good.Neither mine, nor anyone else's claim was that "design" is subjective. The claim was that "taste" is subjective. Those are not the same... Let's look at the same thing with a different sense: There are numerous examples of songs produced in the last couple decades that are bad. They have low-effort, low skill, and poorly executed compositions. They are objectively bad music. Despite this, there are numerous people who love these bad songs. Why? Because despite their design and composition being objectively bad, they fit the taste of the listeners that enjoy them. Taste is 100% subjective.
Who's to say that the devs that designed the pieces you dislike don't actually like those pieces themselves? If I'm designing armor for a game, I'm not going to design something that I think looks bad. I'm going to design something I like. You'd be hard pressed to convince me that the devs of FFXIV are any different.
