Yoshida on Dawntrail casual content difficulty

There was a recent Famitsu interview with Yoshida and Sakaguchi. It primarily pertains to Fantasian, but they also discuss how DT's battle content has played out so far.

    Sakaguchi:
I won't go into detail about my impressions of the story because it would be a spoiler, but there were elements that paid homage to the old FF series, and they were used in a really good way, so I was grinning as I played. The content, such as instance dungeons, was also quite challenging, and I really enjoyed it.
    Yoshida:
There were some opinions that the difficulty of the content was too difficult for casual gamers, but those opinions have calmed down. On the other hand, we have received a lot of feedback from both inside and outside of Japan that this is fun, so we would like to continue in this direction for a while

Yoshi-P wants the difficulty where it is, and Sakaguchi straight up said he enjoyed the challenge. If that doesn't tell you that it's where it should be... nothing will.

This is a clear, unambiguous statement, and the direction that they are taking, pretty much closing the issue.

I personally really like the difficulty of the current dungeons. The only thing I'd like to see change is more mini bosses like what we got in Alexandria and Origenics. But importantly, please give these mini bosses a mechanic that the next boss will use. Makes the enemy more than a hp sponge, but also helps new players so they have a better chance of not instantly dying to the boss.

Is his statement as clear and ambiguous as when he made this one??

"In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that."

"Fanboy is gaming jargon used to describe an individual that has gone beyond the point of being a PC or console game fan and, during online chats or discussions, shifts to defend the program at all costs, unable to take any criticism or acknowledge any shortcomings of the game or gaming console."

I would just rather have the boss immediately kill new players, honestly. A boss killing someone because they didn't know a mechanic is something that happens once or twice. A miniboss that is a copypaste of a mechanic you're about to see again anyway is something you have to deal with every single time you run the dungeon for the two patches it exists in expert roulette. It would be nice if they made more interesting minibosses, but I don't want them to just end up being a teaching fight for the next fight.

It's a dungeon fight anyway, even wiping to it would lose you like 2 minutes max.

You.... you do realize why a system requiring home owners log in at regular intervals is necessary, right? If that didn't exist, then there would literally never be any open plots for new players to buy... The overwhelming majority of new plots to purchase are foreclosures.

FWIW, that Yoshi-p housing statement sounds like it's against maintenance costs (including the bit about your house "breaking down", which sounds like quality degredation, not total abandonment), which still holds true to today. Maintenance costs, and checks to make sure players are still using the thing, aren't the same thing.

Yeah, that's how I take his comment, as well, honestly. Even if he was meaning how Besame interpreted it, however, the point still stands... if such a system didn't exist, there would never be any home purchases happening, as all plots would be owned by players who have long-since quit the game.

The statement was made in 2013, back when not a lot of people can buy houses. Where the house price could actually go down to almost half the price because no one could afford it. So, back then, there's no such system.

And the demolition timer is not made so that you continue subscription, but it's because there's limited number of housing plot and it will be wasted on people who has retired from XIV. Otherwise, there will be no plots for sale for new players.
If you want one without demolition timer, you could buy an Apartment.
