We can only hope it doesn't continue to spread.well to be fair SE is such a big company and has so many projects you cant say for sure.
I myself saw Soyny drowning in this MODERN CULTURE for so long and thanked Naoki Yoshida for being a SHIElD of this game from that nonsence. Sure we had some here and there but it was always some situational an minor stuff i couldnt care less. Let those bunbois wear thir fairy princess outfit and skirts. Thye dont ever leave Limsa anyway.
Now it seems that the wall was breached. Only 7.1 will tell.
If all else fails you can always try Final Fantasy XI, its far too old to have woke stuff added to it, and at the rate things are going the first online FF game will outlast the modern one anyway.
At least so far the gathering DT quests are a good story...but who knows how long that'll last...(And after FSH is 100, i'll get CUL to 100 I want to see how the Juice lady story is, and will likely try the other gathering and crafting stories)

Square enix should ignore the mentally ill mentality that if someone that isn't european is in a ff game that "waaaah it's not right! my pasty world is ending!"
I actually agree on them ignoring mentally ill people. We just disagree on who we consider mentally ill.
What they should not ignore is how "successful" all this recent DEI game releases have been including their own:
- Forspoken (big losses)
- Suicide Squad kill the Justice Leage (studio shut down)
- all the recent Ubisoft releases (just look at their stock price)
- Concord (shut down in a few feeks after bein 8 years in development and i wonder if that studio will survive?)
- Dustborn, Flintlock, ...
if this "modern audience" is so important, then why are they not showing up to support the games that were made for them ?
all new IPs with DEI seem to fail horribly so they try to wriggle their way into established IPs to shove their ideology down our throats while screeching hate on twatter towards anyone that speaks up about their beloved IPs being ruined.
this people live in a distorted twatter reality and actual real life data shows that this crap is not popular.
FF14 already has a lot of characters that fit the DEI category but so far they have always been written well and it never felt forced.
i am actually surprised that no one in the trans community is upset that they gave the first trans VA to the worst written character in FF14 so far.
maybe they are just using the trans VA as shield to deflect from their abysmal writing?
I'm so glad early south park told me to fence sit and laugh at the two people on either side arguing. I would find it so exhausting to fight over this.
Yeah. No. With this kind of reasonment I can make you any story "woke", even old school W40K, Judge Dredd or Lord of the Ring.
Otis and Gulool Ja Ja are extremly positive character and Koana is said to be partly true at the end (and is a siscon from the beginning).
Soraal Ja is just a basic villain.
Bakool Ja Ja is a bully stereotype who is in fact "kind inside" that exist since ever, even more in Japanese culture where bullying is a serious thing.
Most of what you are talking about after is bad shonen stereotype. Everyone liking the main character instantly ? Like someone said Luffy can become friend of anyone, even his ennemy and that's the strongest power there is. The other characters being nearly irrelevant at the end ? Same, bad shonen vibe.
And having female character isn't either woke and anything.
You are overthinking and stretching plain and simple bad writting and wanting to appeal to a younger audience (shonen thing) to what you think is "DEI writting".

And as someone that actually likes shounen animes i do not really consider DT a shounen story. If this was supposed to be a shounen manga type story then the writer does not really understands what makes this type of stories actually interesting.
No one would like a character that fails their way to the top without properly earning it.
Its not just bad writing, its the presentation. I think its bad design to go 3 or more hours without combat. They had a huge opportunity to introduce an at sea battle on your way to Tural.
The MSQ being average to below average is not all that bad. If this expansion is anything like stormblood in terms of post MSQ and content, then the future is looking bright.
after DT, I can justify people who praise stormbloodIts not just bad writing, its the presentation. I think its bad design to go 3 or more hours without combat. They had a huge opportunity to introduce an at sea battle on your way to Tural.

It's not a Shounen Story, that's an excuses I've been seeing people trying to defend it using to justify the bad story. But they don't understand what a shounen story is and why it isn't one, and when explained they ignore the explanation. This is a story about an unlikeable character failing their way to the top, and we're forced to go along with it and cheerlead for them.It could be just bad writing but could also be something else.

This feels like we have a repeat of the FFXIII Lightning situation all over again, a writer or director has gotten way to attached to a character that nobody else likes, and is in a position to push that character onto everyone.
The glimmer of hope we have is that, thanks to the CEOs idiotic mistake of trying to hard push NFTs and "other" very public failings, they can't really afford to have FFXIV die off now. It's too much of a money maker for them. So they'll probably try and course correct. Now what's important is who's doing the course correct, if it's Exec that's a problem as they pushed NFTs and clearly have no idea what the average person wants. If it's the (Anti-)"Ethics" Department that's always a problem, they most likely are the ones who called for SBI's involvement in some games, and are pushing DEI. Which is being proven to be a death kiss to games right now. So the best bet for everyone is to put it in the hands of Devs that actually care, and right now it's hard to say who that might be.
