Try saying half of the things people have been saying in these Wuk-related threads in-game and see if you don't get a voluntold vacation from the game and waste your sub. I've seen people get dogpiled for less than what the average person here says. (They aren't hateful or something-phobic, by the way)

Get away from here with that histrionic nonsense. 99.9% of players do not visit the forums, and the vast majority of people complaining about Wuk Lamat and her voice actor couldn't care less about her being trans. If you think a couple people commenting on a video game forum thread being butts means the whole place is a "haven for transphobia," you are living in a fantasy horror show of your own making.

It *does* find ways of creeping in regardless though. When the term filters were announced, you had a sizable number of people /cheering the fact that they could block "LGBT" from chat not because it was a great catch-all for blocking venues (and I say that as a bi guy who absolutely wanted to filter venues from shout in the most effective way possible and added LGBT myself), but because they felt empowered by being able to remove "them" from the game in even the smallest way, and expressed "hope" that it was a sign of things to come that Final Fantasy 14 was becoming "anti-woke".

Of course, they all immediately turned into frothing masses when the next gender unlocked shop outfit was announced (the prince and princess ones I think?), but still, there *is* an undercurrent of bigotry in the game's overall community even if they're quiet about it in-game, and they'll just use other means to express it like the forums for example.

We are entitled to blocking whatever terms we see fit. I got tired of seeing "LGBT" etc. in shout chats when people would run by shilling for their FCs and "venues" so best believe I have the term "LGBT" and a few other variants filtered. Any other "bigoted" opinions are also things players are entitled to. I'd be pretty reluctant to say that it's a haven for "transphobia" and saying any undercurrent didn't result from people being dogpiled for having polite disagreements about this sort of thing.

And to the people misgendering Sena: It's a bad look, and takes away from your critique of the localization and her performance (if you actually have one). "But he's really a man!" Okay. Do you have a critique that doesn't just come down to "I don't like that a trans person has this role?" Because lots of people do have critiques that aren't that, such as Wuk Lamat's accent inconsistency and flat line delivery, and those are critiques that have nothing to do with who got assigned what gender and when. "But she posts hateful things on Twitter!" Chances are it's going to come back and bite her in the ass and Square-Enix won't renew her contract. It's too soon to say most likely. Once again, misgendering her here makes you look bad because it lends credence to the harassment claims against her. Misgendering is considered harassment under many ToS, so consider not doing that if you don't want to come across as a harasser. "But misgendering isn't harassment." Well, a lot of places think it does count as harassment, and you don't write the rules. Abide by them if you don't want to get kicked out.

And to everyone else who's not misgendering Sena and actually having a normal conversation: Thank you for being cool.

I feel the same way. I hate Graha Tia, with a passion, but that doesn't make me a homophobe. And if it does that would be weird anyway since I am super gay. But even in the lgbtq community it's difficult to criticise something that involves a trans person because you are immediately accused of being a transphobe. It's really frustrating for those of us who have been on the front lines of movements and activism for decades, with many close friends and sometimes family members who are trans, to suddenly be called a transphobe by some, usually straight usually cis, person for not liking a project that involves someone who is trans. While there is transphobia going on here, it's by a minority of ppl talking about her performance.

Sena is just a horrible person and while Yoshida was in the right to say no one should attack her, I think SE needs to put her in check. However, I have seen this many times, and as someone who uses her identity as a shield (to the detriment of her whole community) I am sure she would try to start some sort of campaign against SE. Because she is one of those ppl who cannot take criticism, knows their talent is iffy, is lacking in personal agency and uses every metaphoric weapon in their arsenal they can to feel powerful.

Guys, if you see people accusing others of transphobia or misgendering, just ignore them and stay on topic. Don't go out of your way to defend yourself or others. At least not in these threads.
