Regardless of whether you think the song is good or bad, genre wise it feels like they shoved a Lion King / High School musical song into a game that is closer to Lord of the Rings in terms of story / target audience. It is jarring, it does not fit, and it would fit just as well in a montage in LOTR or Harry Potter in the middle of one of their movies or during the credits.

To be fair, this expansion's story in general was way more Disney than LotR with how it was all about perfect and idyllic Tural society and the power of friendship. So in that regard the song fits perfectly with the expansion. The problem is that the expansion itself doesn't really fit with the rest of the game's story / target audience.

The first half of the story, yes. It started with an up beat Disney Saturday morning TV show kinda feel to it. The second half of the story tried to jam in a traditional FFXIV more young adult story, but it ended up being rushed (how did we make the Stormblood mistake, again?). But I'd still argue the song does not belong in the montage, at minimum. The context for that montage was there was just an attack, people are dead in the streets, Papa is dead, one of the country's most revered generals has betrayed them, there are flying fortresses in the sky ready to rain down death at a minute's notice, the village we're headed to has Erenville's mother / Wuk Lamat's mother figure, and we have no idea what has happened to them (are they alive, dead, in pain, etc.), but for some reason we get a happy-go-lucky song just before we go to war...?

If the montage music had happened prior to the attack, I'd say it's jarring for FFXIV as a whole (including 1.0) but not for that particular story, yes. But given that it happened after the equivalent of Pearl Harbor for their capital city... It does not fit.

The writers tried to mimic the Talos building scene from Shadowbringers, where people from all over The First come together for a common goal despite being at each others throats previously. It doesn't work at all in Dawntrail because the whole expansion before this scene was all about how everyone in Tural already gets along for the most part, so them coming together for a common goal isn't really all that special.

It really makes me think that the story went through too many rewrites and them coming together was supposed to be this special never before seen thing, and then the song would suddenly make a lot more sense. Would still be cheesy and silly but probably quite a bit less than it is now.

Yeah, the issue isn't with the song per say (except what the guy in the video I re-posted says about it being mixed improperly so it sounds weird) nor is the issue the VAs. The issue is the story writing and the VA directors. Just earlier there was an article about how VAs in the video game industry aren't given the script beforehand and aren't given proper direction in the moment (such as the context for your lines). With games that have world class acting / voice acting such as Baldur's Gate 3 and God of War Ragonarok - It makes you wonder why FFXIV is getting worse since Shadowbringers with VAs and not better.

The studio they're working with needs a contract re-work. The real threads on this forum should be advocating for better working conditions for the VAs so they can do their job to the best of their ability and get an editor for your writers.

Well firstly, saying "he" when you have already seen or been told that is wrong is not a "grammatical error." Nor is use of "heshe." Nor is use of "(((she)))," especially if you are internet-poisoned enough to know that last one's origins.

Changing "he" to "she" does not alter the meaning of the posts. Don't give pronouns power so they can hurt you. Don't make transgender identity look fragile.
