Yes restrictions suck but so does instability caused by over crowding. Aether has been there and done that. If we would like a possible repeat of said occurance remove those restrictions before a better fix is in place.Correct. They created DC travel and as a result caused a problem. I don't support restrictions of any kind, even those on retainers/fc buffs (or storage) even in cross world. Especially for retainers, something that you might be paying extra subscription for- to lose access to it while traveling is awful.
So? I think we might be seeing fluctuations of restrictions.
In my opinion DC travel affects certain aspects of the game and at times negatively ie hunts/PF. I don't enjoy feeling like I'm on the DC that is 'dying', or if I want content I have to inconvenience myself to go elsewhere. Things were fine before DC travel, it's only a problem because they didn't release it alongside cross DC PF/DF.
SE keeps insisting on segregating the playerbase by adding more DC that are dead on arrival. Instead we get resources invested into a half baked graphical update rather than a fix for that. I think until we get a permanent solution we might unfortunately deal with restrictions. Restrictions aren't new, and I agree they suck, I'd be down to DC travel on a new DC if I didn't lose access to something I'm paying monthly for or my buffs.
If it were up to me, I'd work pour resources into making cross DC PF/DF a reality, it'll lessen the load of people flocking to one DC while DC travel's restriction would be lifted, allowing people to travel freely to meet up with friends/do content or organize social events. I think it'd mitigate some of the issues that people are facing currently. That's my opinion anyway.
Restrictions suck. Depending on restrictions people will find ways around it and it might make said restrictions worse.
I hope SE comes up with a solution that makes people on both sides happy, though I have little faith.
Ugh going to feel like a broken record saying this but...this entire games back bone needs to be rebuilt. The issue with FFXIV is the infrastructure was built incorrectly from the start and they built atop of it. FFXIV has separate individual storage spaces for absolutely everything, including retainers. This has not changed since 2.0 outside of capacity increases.
When we world transfer or DC travel, the system only keeps our personal inventory and a few special storage areas like the glamour dresser and armoire. Additionally, if you look at the buff bar the text color changes on them from green to white, which probably means it is applying a copy of a buff to the character without a designated source. Basically, they have a very clunky system and never intended for this feature to exist.
As for why WoW lets people transfer to congested servers and FFXIV doesn't, that's probably more a policy thing. FFXIV has had that suffering from success problem of getting too many players before so they try to make sure everyone has a max possible login time. WoW is just kind of a monster when it comes to this stuff: Simpler game so more time to deal with the big problems.
You know, you're right. While I did have some trouble with people here as well, I've been able to more easily avoid them compared to over there. So yeah, megaserver system away.Don't we already have a literal delete character button in terms of block functionality? You can't see their model or messages anymore- something that isn't in GW2. I also played GW2 for 5 or so years before starting FFXIV, I never had issues with people there as much as I did here. I'm sorry you went through that. On the bright side as we become a megaserver/DC there'd be a larger pool of players to pick from and you'd unlikely run into someone you blocked in DF/PF.
"are allowed only if the population of the world is at less than capacity"Out of curiousity I checked GW2, and it's very much the same.

I think SE should start copying homework from both Blizzard (allow people to transfer if they pay money) and give us a megaserver like GW2 or a mega-data center.
I'm curious why that is, what kind of limitations cause that and so on...
I know people here are arguing about very important, technical stuff I don't understand but ... I just wanted to poke my head in here and say how the DC travel changes have effected me and my friends. Me and my best friend, husband, and a few other friends have been on Halicarnassus since it was made because that was around when we joined the game and it was what we were directed to. Despite it being largely "dead" we stayed because we managed to find a RP FC and were able to travel to Crystal and Aether for RP on the evenings nothing was open on our server (which was often). Ever since the DC travel restrictions were put in place, as soon as DC transfer was available, our FC of just over 30 people has seen several people leave so they can transfer to Crystal because every night they are unable to access RP. The RP venues are still borderline non-existent on Dynamis PF (unless you're looking to go to a gambling den or DJ nightclub, which I'm not) while alive elsewhere. It's been so dead that people have gotten bored and are either just not logging in anymore or are, as I said, fleeing to Crystal while a couple of those worlds are still open for transfer. Me and my friend are planning to transfer later tonight so we can also make it to Crystal before it's completely blocked off and we're stuck on the worst server in the game. So yeah, before we had an active and somewhat healthy FC of people who'd play on both Dynamis and Crystal, now our FC is dying as everyone flees to Crystal because Dynamis honest to god just sucks. That's the impact that this change has had on our FC. Not sure if that's what Square Enix originally intended with these changes, but that's what's happening.
Creating or moving characters to full DCs is a different issue, though, to SE completely destroying both gameplay and the social scene. Can we move back on topic
....and the rest of Dynamis is dead, can't travel unless I give up on sleep and move over to another dc at 6am but now I'm at a loss cuz I cant access any of my retainers or fc buffs, etc. no sleep, no queues, no leveling retainers, small number of people to talk to and play with. The pf is pretty barren most times, queues are rough no matter what job you play, except for a couple hours in the evening when the online player count reaches its daily peak. so many people are just straight up quitting the game, taking a break, or fleeing to another dc asap where they sit logged in 24/7 using 3rd party tools to avoid being removed for inactivity. Dynamis is just as dead as it was at patch 6.5 (ish) and is getting worse daily. I believe everyone from Dynamis is due some playtime as compensation, because this has just been a completely unacceptable situation. The fact that they've completely ignored this outburst of unhappiness on the forums by not removing the restrictions with the hotfix, and haven't commented on it at all is complete disrespect to all of us, and unprofessional to say the least.I know people here are arguing about very important, technical stuff I don't understand but ...
