So, quickly weighing in on this because I think it's particularly interesting. I don't care if Bridget is trans or not, but you are correct that the whole point of the character was that they were raised as a girl despite being born a boy because their village had this whole thing about- if I remember right - men bringing bad luck. The whole point of the character was that they didn't want that, and instead wanted to be a manly man - so it was this fun juxtaposition.

That is to say, the character was quite literally groomed into taking a sexual identity they didn't want. So it does kind of feel like going "Actually, they're trans now" is...a little bit weird, because it was indeed outlined that Bridget was abused and forced into this role that they didn't want. Narratively it can absolutely happen, but it has some very unfortunate connotations.

Scarily accurate to what happens to some children now, too... Seen way too many insane individuals talking about how they'd force their male children to be trans or gay.

Well, Bridget was just breaking gender norms back in the day by being a very feminine guy. But I have the feeling, that this isn't supposed to exist anymore in the world of today. I mean, feminine guys? That can't exist, those must actually be trans right? Because being a guy who looks more soft or androgynous is impossible. You either a bulky manly man or trans.

I feel like this is a step back, actually. People used to say that it's sexist to say things like 'boys can't wear make-up' or 'girls don't play with cars'. Which is inherently true, it's sexist.
But in todays world, if someone doesn't fit the gender norm, they have to be trans right? Dangerous mindset...but unfortunately very common.

Also, this just feels like a retcon or a change to the canon to please the fans. But of course it's hard to prove. Like many things that get changed later on a whim by the directors or authors of certain games, books or movies.

Bridget has always been a boy. As someone who has been around since the game's beginning, he was meant to be a tragedy case for a boy being raised as a girl due to his village's culture around boys and girls.

Now, if you wish for him to be considered trans now, you have to reason then that the devs are saying that he became trans due to the abuse of his family forcing him to be a girl. If you want that as your hill to die on, be my guess.

My point is this, if the developers want to make changes to the game world and characters that is on them. As fans you can ignore or boycott all you want does not change the fact the change happened and trying say otherwise is weird imo.

If the developers said Bridget was an orange blob from outer space that took the form of a nun or hell they are a multi verse verse of Rosette. If that is the story element change the developers want and they want to say this was all part of their master plan from day one. I really do not see what is the point in trying to say well you guys are lying. It is their world end of the day they can do with it as they please. IF that is the story and connotation they wish to portray that is all on them.

If that is how they want to give a node to representation fine, I would not do it that way, but also Guilty Gear so this is like the least insane thing to happen lore wise.

However, a lot of fighting games already had the token cute character, so they wanted something unconventional. They then made a cute character that's a guy. In western world.... But in Japan, Fujioshi and BL Otaku still love Reverse Trap.
In fact, it's quite a classic for them.

I know your point. I just think you are taking either being obtuse in what point I was making or you are naive to the way this all works.

I can tell you with certainty that he said that only to appease modern culture. This was a guy was greatly into visual kei aestethics back in the day. To him, bridget crossdressing was just one of the ways of breaking the usual norms, based off the metal culture he also followed. Every theme had a point. The last thing that was being thought about back then was sexual. It was all meant to be an alternative take on all the stereotypical fighter designs we got in games like Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and Mortal Kombat. You can tell by the designs of each GG character that they are meant to follow the alternative clothing style.

Nowadays, nuance is lost. I can accept that someone like him changed over the years from his younger self, but I'm not an idiot to know why he said what he said now compared to then.

All I've been seeing is people questioning the veracity of claims, and understandably so considering that she felt the need to quote tweet someone merely criticizing her work when making the claims, when she should know fully well that doing that such a thing is bound to cause a flood to the person.

Meanwhile, someone making fun of her forehead and she putting them on blast again, is enough for another wave of "These phobes are gross and you're great!"... over a forehead roast.

As per the ANN interview, I believe they stated they were waiting for the right time, but always intended for Bridget to be trans. We can provide past evidence that puts that claim into question, but all they would have to say is it is part of my master plan for the character. Pretty much what they said in the interview. No matter how much it smells like BS we really cannot disprove their claims that it was part of their plan from the start but they were waiting for the right moment.

All that being said my point is all of that is moot, cause at this point in time within our world Bridget is trans. Fans can make all the claims they are not, if the developers feel otherwise and made the change. Until they revert the change sorry Bridget is Trans. The reason and motive being the change can be brought into question, but to deny the character is Trans in this moment in time does not seem weird. Not because they are trans but because it is fans pretty much telling the creators how they should handle their own game world and lore. That is not our call to make, we can try to sway change or what have you but if those in power want to make the change we have two choices, ignore the changes or ignore the ame.
