That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.
I dont trust modern SE to make online games
I think Dawntrail is FFxiv sunsetting. Not the end, just the very beginning of the end.
Squarenix stocks dipping to a five year low at the release of the new expansion of their flagship series' mmo is nightmarish news. And it has stayed at that five year low.
Things will be very quiet until 8.0 if they dont do something, even a PR statement. And it will be a downward slide.
If 8.0 is met with controversy and criticism on the gameplay level, the game is dead and I dont think it will survive for a 9.0. It's when they are saying they're updating job gameplay and it has to be good. We need it now, or well, for the last five or so years and havent gotten it.
The game will stay up but we may see expansions discontinued or severely delayed.
We might see Yoshida retire or move on to other projects if FFxiv goes downhill. I think especially if he feels like it isnt his work anymore like how he was distracted with 16 for dawntrail, amd has less direct influence in the new upper position.
And a lot of the loyalist players will lose their passion and go with him.
We'll see a 9.0 if they get the PR right after this debacle with DT, and if 8.0 isn't a disaster. It doesnt have to be good, just not terrible.
In the end im saying there's a chance we never see a 10.0 in 5-6 years and the game is left in the dust for the next final fantasy amusement park ride game.
I wouldn't want 14 to be put to rest, because I'm way too attached to it, like I was 11.
But I would love SE to come with their next big MMO since DQX localization is never happening.
I mean why not do a other international Dragon Quest one then.
The franchise isnt as big in the west than in Japan but still.
Huh. I'll be honest, I missed that one, somehow. Fair enough.
Still has years of development, though, given the...let's say volatile state of the video game market (and ncsoft/arenanet, itself), we'll see if it makes it, and if it's an actual MMO and not some live service garbage.
I can recommend LOTRO if you want to have a more "classic" MMO that you can immerse yourself in.
It's more or less book-accurate Middle-Earth, during the events of LOTR.
Of course, there are some flaws you'll have to look past, but the class-fantasy and the quests are quite great. Plus, who doesn't want to take a walk through the Shire?
Dawntrail is what I imagine the entire MSQ as a healer-main.
Beleive it or not
FFXIV have the potential to be best MMO period
But I don't think Square Enix care really
They could introduce new 10 years plan for next expansion
They could give us unique job design
They could give us more content and gameplay elements or at least RPG elements
But no we got Wuk lamat
