So like the concept of 'Fistweaving' from WoW's Mistweaver Monk, where a fraction of melee damage is converted to group heal when the enemy is debuffed?

Tank or DPS seems like the likeliest Role for a hammer-wielder, yeah, but it might be nice to go against expectations once in a while (it would probably be a nightmare to balance, like you said)! They often design content with healers meant to coordinate like ranged units, so probably not. It'd be more of a dedicated off Tank or a support oriented Melee. I'd imagine they'd need to change the trinity by quite a bit to make it work, though I wouldn't be against that.
I'm not familiar with what you're referencing, but that sounds like it could be a fun gimmick, sure!
I don't see why not. OW Had Bridgette, WoW had fist-weavers. Many games have hosted what I'd call 'melee healers'. Whether they fit into the modern FFXIV mechanics or not isn't overly relevant to me personally as they still maintain BLM, a class based on doing damage by not moving as much as possible, in a game with mechs based on making you move as much as possible.
So, yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be viable. May even be a good design idea to apply to old fan faves like Geomancer.
Yeah. Let's call it Chiropractor. And it revolves around dashing between party members and healing them using Hokuto Shinken.
