You won't see me return to WoW even if paid or held at gunpoint, from a nasty community since like Wrath of the lich king or earlier to Legion's grindy work like feel to the terrible writing that seem to just get worse and worse.. And don't forget the overly reliance on addons if you ever want to get into raiding or high end content. Because the devs seem to love to build mechanics that close to oneshot expecting that people use things shouting and flashing their screen with "This is happening in 10 seconds!!" instead of more clear effects.
Don't need that nonsense in my life... if i want grind there is warframe for free.

Either EU got insane server capacity or there weren't enough players to make the queues we had on Endwalker launch. I would say Sproutbringer ended somewhere after Endwalker. People did the MSQ, Dragonflght got announced and they switched. Long-term relationships and addiction are still there. And as the expansion was somewhat good it didn't manage to regain all of the players lost (underperformed on sales and subs than what they expected) it started a trend and with Metzen here and there people probably now will go play War Within launch. FFXIV won't have any significant content until the next expansion anyway unless someone wants to clear all the tiers. WoW at least is capable of big change each expansion, especially when their playerbase hits rock bottom from bad content

it got a lot of new space between whole new worlds added and all world capacity was increased from 20k to 30k max players a 50% increase which is insane if you think of how many more players that meant we could hold total and there was still ques.

Presumably there were also fewer DDoS attacks making the mess worse.

Kinda related, there was a thread not long ago encouraging people to take a break or quit if they needed to for their own health. So I consider this in the same vein.

I did buy DT, couldn't stand the story but finally managed to finish it a couple days ago. It has left me with no interest in the MSQ unless they improve or change things. So I'm going to try the new WoW expansion when it comes out, then after that I'll check out ESO or Swtor as I haven't played either in a while and it should be interesting to see what is new. And I've been meaning to give GW2 a proper try so I'd also like to play that. Not to mention the massive backlog of single player games I have that has been sitting around collecting digital dust.

I think the whole one game and nothing else mentality is really unnecessary, though I also understand it as MMOs are designed around you devoting all your time to just that game. But it is good to try other things. You wouldn't just watch one movie or read one book in your lifetime, so why resign yourself to only playing one game? Most of all games should be enjoyed, if you're not enjoying it then it might be better to look to a different one.

Personally, I'll be checking out streams of the patch MSQ as it comes out to see how it goes. If I like the look of it I'll come back, if I don't I'll just continue playing other things and waiting.

WoW is pretty nice right now tbh. They have that MoP remix thing which lets you level alts super fast in the old expansion, run the raids together with all those players (raids that would otherwise be dead because they're old), collect all kinds of transmog and mounts, including those that used to be VERY hard to get, brand new shinies too, and you also get power ups throughout the whole thing, so it's just... Fun... Casual, easy, fast, populated fun.

I actually commend them for the idea. They figured out a way to bring old content back to life, and to make it a hundred times more fun at the same time.

Generally Blizz is doing a lot better. They seem to have learned from their HUGE Shadowlands mistakes. Dragonflight was THE adventuring expansion that Dawntrail wishes it could be. No idea how War Within will turn out, that remains to be seen. Who knows, they might drop the ball again. Or not. Right now I'm enjoying the game though.

The benefit of playing multiple MMOs is just that - you can hop to another whenever one of them starts sucking. Once it improves you can go back. Not every expansion can be a brilliant success, sometimes they just... exist. Hopefully the next can be better though.

Always important to remember though, feedback is what makes those things improve. WoW community is always vocal about their issues. It has helped and will continue helping make the game better. The FFXIV community still struggles with the concept... But maybe eventually we'll figure these things out.

Anyway, do you think the ffxiv cash shop IS integrated? Because when you write "even more" I think "it is already", but I don't find a single button of this integration.
On the other hand, wow has a button close the inventory, the help, the skill list page... a missclick is really easy if you use the mouse instead of a shortcut.

    Great job Microsoft-Blizzard.

war within is shaping up to be an appropriate expansion for part 1 of 3. delves which can be solo and give up to heroic gear, and the weekly vault is adding a world bar to replace the pvp bar. and the world content will count toward it including delves. im actually pretty hype

Exodus this, refugees that... what happened to just playing games you enjoyed? SE will know that their golden goose is dying when their numbers start to fall, no need to organize events over not playing games because 1% of your expected playtime during any specific expansion is sub-par. MMOs almost feel like toxic game design in how much they hook people into them. Switching games shouldn't be this big of an ordeal.

Granted, I'm probably going to give WoW a shot when the new expansion comes out, but even though I like its combat flow better than XIV's, I've been dissatisfied with its metagame/endgame prog for far, far too long to have any desire to put significant time into it.

You want to run the same 5 dungeons over and over (and over (and over)) again at varying levels of difficulty (tuning only, no new mechanics 4head) between raid tiers? Play WoW.

You want to do literally anything else? Consider GW2 or FFXIV.
