You know what. I'm kinda with the OP here. I think I would have preferred we got a remake of 1.0 than overwhelming majority of Dawntrail.

Give us the option to replay 1.0 content, experience the 1.0 story, maybe even get the old 1.0 gear (like the old onion gear, red onion gear, and peregrin helm which I've made no secret to wanting better ways for us to get now.) They could even tie it all into District 9 and the Living Memory by making it a recreation of the world at the time. A literal Living Memory of Events. Then it could be tied into to us finding out about some sort of secret, with the evidence being destroyed in the calamity, leading into the next story. And bam we keep the best zones, tie in the original story, regain lost content so it's not wasted, and set up for new content.

    No thank you.
If you want an helm, ask for that helm.

leave 1.0 in that USB stick inside Yoshida's desk drawer.

It's a waste of money, and no one in 2024 wants that kind of experience.

I recall a certain Dev of another very popular MMO saying the exact same thing about the Vanilla version of their MMO. But I digress, I'm not saying to release it exactly as 1.0 was back then. I'm saying to fix it up, adjust it to the modern standard of the game. Tie the old content in with new content, would mean we'd technically get 2 MSQ's. One following the original 1.0 to ARR story, redone for consistency and a better experience, and the other involving the Living Memory and Past Mysterious and all that type of stuff. Since their re-using old zones, means they can recycle old armor designs, which they're doing right now anyway, and the design team can focus on fixes design flaws, like the infamous flower pots.

Edit: This could even tie in with NG+ content, once you complete the Living Memory story you could start NG+ with the 1.0 MSQ moving forward into ARR. It would means you could get the full story in NG+

WoW vanilla was a GOOD game even in 2004, A game played from milions of players and with high quality content. I played it at the release and I don't regret it.
On the other hand 1.0 was not. They cannot recycle assets: the zones were EMPTY, and the story was "a quest every 5 levels" and even these small quests were generic.
What are they supposed to do, create a 25 min walking green lawn and say "this is the old zone around limsa Lominsa".

Leave 1.0 in the mist of the time, there is nothing to salvage, not even for nostalgia.

There's plenty to salvage from it. They can actually put stuff in the zones, the MSQ doesn't have to keep the 5 level restrictions anymore and can be condensed so that they aren't filler so long as the story still connects and makes sense, and some of these zones are currently blocked off in the game. Working on them for the living memory means we could regain access to them in the main world where they could actually develop them and make use of them.

Limsa is a prime example, develop some of those areas into a Separate Pirate city, one not under the control of the Admiral, but instead a Lawless location. Same with Gridania make it like a gathering place for Poachers and Bandits.

With this idea we wouldn't even have to isolate ourselves to those areas either, we could travel to Ishgard or Garlemald and see the areas before all the snow and ice. Before the destruction.

If you do that there is nothing left from 1.0, and we call it "2.0".

FFXI is still active, both on private servers and retail. The market for a game in that fashion isn't going to do gangbusters, but it would certainly be a cult hit.
    FFXI is not FFXIV 1.0.
FFXI is an old school mmorpg, FFXIV 1.0 was a game without rhyme or reason.
If you want to try something that bad, Steam is plenty of scam mmorpg: Pick one, enjoy the download and then spam insults and complain in its forum.

And when they finally did release "Classic," it wasn't their 1.0, but the end-patch version, and didn't those servers then start re-progressing through the different expansions? There also wasn't such a core design shift in WoW that would compare to 1.0 vs. 2.0 in FFXIV.

    Sorry I didn't see your message. x.x
I actually don't remember what the final 1.x patch was. I thought we were just generally referring to the whole thing as 1.0. As for the Classic situation, they started releasing Servers for their pervious expansion, however they actually did keep the classic servers around last I checked. I'm at work so I can't confirm that, but I recall they were still up. They also went and released the Hardcore Classic servers which are an Ironman version of Classic, and Season of Discovery Servers which are Classic+ Servers where they added in some more experimental stuff to Classic.

Did you know Y'shtola used to be Neo from The Matrix?

Naw that's not her being Neo, that's just Physics. Everyone knows bullets can't touch Waifu material instead they bend around the Waifu as to not harm her, it's science and stuff.
