You are getting this way wrong. For years now it has not been constant criticism outside of the forums here and I think that is because the forums here are the only place without a downvote button. If you go to places like Reddit or Twitter or anyplace else the ppl are nearly rabid about this game and gang up on you like hyenas if you dare have any criticism about the game, its direction, story, etc. What we are seeing now is a direct result of all that white knighting, esp in the story, which went directly into the toilet this expansion. Last expansion it was easy to see just how easy and narratively simple this gam got.
And the thing is, we have been trying to talk about how downhill the writing went. How far they fell in writing quality with endwalker. How they wasted and ruined characters like Zodiarc, Hydaelyn and the Twelve. How they rushed the story needlessly and dropped the ball narratively over and over again. And now we went from barely passable college level writing in EW to barely passable high school english class writing in DT. But holy hell, those of us who had anything negative to say or wanted to point out plot holes or anything couldn't say a thing without the call to arms by the masses. So DT is frankly on the heads of all those keyboard warriors who felt personally slighted at mere mention of the game's bad narrative direction.
The game had also become so easy that all we had to do was collect tomes for some of the most powerful weapons in the game, which is absolutely rediculous. Again because of the keyboard warriors who just wanted everything now. I understand that some content is hard for some, but so many are just plain unwilling to try to improve and if they are not givin the best gear, the mounts, minions, etc right now with the least amount of effort they throw an online tantrum like a toddler. It's ok to fail and to have to try. Its good to fail in fact because it will help you improve and become better. And that goes for nearly every facet of life. It had to get to the point where the director was falling asleep to see how bad it became because everyone is more concerned with blowing rainbows up the devs backsides than actually giving feedback that would help improve the game. And I am glad they are course correcting.
I am glad DT happened. It needed to happen. Cause now the only ones not stepping back and saying, "oh...wait, this is not good" we know are the ones who are either lacking knowledge in literary and narrative areas (which is perfectly fine), or just part of the foaming at the mouth fandom. And you can always tell which one is which by their responses.
