Are we destroying "our own" game?

I am enjoying it immensely. The only thing I don't like is they took my DRG dive away But the more I think about it, I like the weird Dragon soul thing they are going for, so it isn't that bad. I guess.

I like that we aren't the center of attention and doing all of the work. I also like the parts where the bad guys don't know who I am and I get to be cocky. Wuk's energy is great.

But I am scared to even post this, cuz all the haters.

I play the game on german so maybe thats also part of why I have another feeling about the story? Especcially Wuk Lamat seems to be hated by many (englisch playing) people.

JP isn't happy about Wuk Lamat either, it's not a language issue. The EN voice acting doesn't help for those with EN audio, but the text is still pretty much the same...
I mean, every aspect of anything could be reduced to a taste thing, but "not being the main character" is only really an issue because of the way it's written: we had many other moments in past expansion where we were not in the spotlight, but we still felt like A CHARACTER. I think it all comes down to how much you care about character writing and your own character in the game.

Also, as much as it sounds "sad" that the forums grew because of bad feelings...they should be aware of that by now. At least 10 years ago, they were.

Ahh I see thanks! I have to admit I like a good story in ff14 but I am not playing the game primarly for the story. I mean I kind of play it for msq but I am not that attached to the characters in it as most of the time of an expansion I play the game with my fc or in game friends.
Totally agree on the part of "devs should be aware" of the community but how is it that so many people like playing the game or at least play the game still?

Same. Liked to not be the center of attention, it's something different. I don't play on German, even though it's my native tongue, becasuse I personally... miss the fantasy element in it, at least in ARR before I switched to English. Feels more like, idk Stuttgart than Eorzea, but I digress.
Wuk Lamat's English voice and accent can be grating at times, but I, personally, think she's just a people's person, and comes after her papa (even though they aren't relöated by blood).

Literally, the few times we can respond with something other than praise to Wuk, another character chimes in saying that the WoL is happy or supportive of Wuk. We weren't the main character through SB and even HW through most of their campaigns, but we were still not simply a cheerleader.

Although everything else in this expansion is great, we have to remember FFXIV is known for having a great story for a MMO. So i think all this complaint of the story being sub-optimal is a fair criticism. I do think the VA is unfairly taking most of the heat, when it should be who ever did the direction/hiring and writing should be blamed. But that can be discused for a later time.

I was hoping the more "sassy" answers would stay when we had a few of them in the beginning half; like telling Wuk that "ideals are nice in theory" when she dragged us to outside the palace to talk about peace yet again, or saying that "Wuk wasn't ready to rule" when Gulool asked us for an honest answer. I pretty much lost hope once we talked to Bakool and even after the game forces you to answer that Bakool's story doesn't absolve him of his crimes; Wuk comes in and goes "lets be friends", and his crimes have now been absolved instantly and we just agree with it and it's done. Why give us an option to say something that literally is made irrelevant 5 seconds later? Eventually the sass is just kinda...gone, and now if the options involve Wuk, it's just praise and support.

Like you said, in Heavensward and Stormblood we weren't the "Main" character. We were a side/support character, but we still actually DID stuff to help out. Daichi Hiroi though really let his theater side out with Dawntrail: basically turning our WoL into an audience member at a theater play who is there to just watch. I didn't mind being on the backburner for Dawntrail, I was kind of welcoming it given how drained Endwalker's MSQ and Post-Patch MSQ made me from how they were written. The issue is how they went about doing it. I know they had to "wrangle in" our character given the threats we slayed in Endwalker, and how if we actually took charge in Dawntrail everything would be completely effortless and done in no time, but the fact they decided the best way to wrangle us in was to literally have our character do absolutely nothing unless required along with being a forced yes man cheerleader for Wuk Lamat the entire expansion is just terrible design.

im going to say the Japanese player base isn't too happy about it either for the most part. there have been quite a few negative take aways from their side of about the expansion. I put the game down for a bit i literally got bored of the story. There isn't anything to keep me going on what happens next.

Definitely felt that - Endwalker had an "Avengers:Endgame" vibe and DT coming in like The Eternals really didn't sell me on the threat or characters.

I'm no conspiracy nut but there's a tinfoil hat part of me that can't help but believe the devs intentionally make things braindead & destroy jobs via some strange homologation just to keep us (peasant common folk player base) distracted. Spending our time creating job tiers, arguing, and ranting over XYZ so they can milk our accounts while they make adjustments all year only to break them again in another xpac. Job security 101
