Dawntrail Graphics Update - Eye Strain

Hi everyone, I'm just posting here to chime in that I am also having eye strain with the new update. I believe the cause of mine is that the textures are all extra sharpened, which is forcing my eyes to try and focus on multiple things, but I am honestly not 100% sure if this is the cause. When Dawntrail first game out, the text including character names looked weirdly sharpened and were giving me massive headaches. I was able to correct this, although the text looks a little wonky and blurry now and I had to disable all character names, but at least I can play the game for short periods. Overall, I'm pretty bummed about this because I've lost interest in playing. I've never had this an eye strain issue with any game before.

Also, just as a note, when I first loaded up Dawntrail, my UI was completely changed and very small looking. It was like the resolution changed, but I couldn't get it back to how it was before. It was completely unplayable until I changed the settings. Not sure why this happened.

Just logged in after the patch, the anisotropic filtering is back. Still no options to turn off bloom, graphics upscaling, wet surface effects and I can still see the blur when I move.

As a person with the exact same problem, I can tell you with 100% certainty that if you feel that the sharpened textures are the cause, then the cause is indeed, most likely, the sharpened textures.

Playing on PS4 pre-DT, I used to play the game with the lowest draw quality due to certain issues. That option is (surprise surprise) not available to us anymore, and I can feel the new overly sharpened textures searing my eyes whenever I play.

Keep in mind, I've yet to even set foot in any of the DT areas: this experience comes strictly from wandering around the city states and Thanalan.

I was tinkering with graphic settings and my game become blurry. It was quite annoying, my eyes would definitely get tired playing like that.

Fixed it now, I believe the problem is upscaling/TSSAA. There is a guide on reddit about DLSS that helped.

If you are on console or AMD I guess no choice but to wait for SE to fix this.

Not sure what guide you're talking about, I googled it, found 2 and they both require 3rd party tools. I will not install anything like that because it's against ToS.

We deserve an official fix. They should start by bringing back our old graphics customization options and adding an OFF button to graphics upscaling.

Looks like today's update put the glare toggle back in the settings, but still no way to turn off DLSS yet... Progress, but not quite there yet.

You can do this without touching your game files by changing the settings globally.

'glare; off' is back, but it does nothing for bloom x_x please just let us turn it off, every other game... ever has this option

There's 2 glare settings for whatever reason, the first one already had the Off Option before the update but isn't for bloom. The second one straight up doesn't work. Overall there's no difference in the settings to yesterday (on PC that is, they did something for XBox with the upscaler or so)

So I'd thought I'd managed to get things bearable, but some instances (including the last trial) were horrible. I even had my husband sit in my chair and play my character for me to complete the lvl 100 dungeon and trial because the effects were so bad for me it was not safe to play (not only the dry eye issue, but I have photosensitive epilepsy). It's hardly a feelgood situation; goodbye any chance of roulettes.

I've managed to level the crafting and gathering classes, and started trying to level battle classes, but I've given up. I generally love doing FATEs and bounties, but I can't even do them comfortably for 30 minutes. You know the drill: headaches, dry eyes, which ended up with a nasty migraine that had me fogged for several days last week, etc.

Now just logging in for my retainers and house plants.
