[Feedback] Wuk Lamat's English Voice

After going through the MSQ for the 4th time (yeah, bite me), the first in Japanese, 2nd in English, third in French and the fourth in English once more, I think I can deliver my final verdict on Wuk's voice.


tl;dr: it's not as bad as I originally believed.


I don't know if it's simply the matter of getting use to it on the 2nd run, but at worst, she sounds alright most of the time. Heck, I can even say her surprise and self-decribating voices are even good from time to time. A twist of irony, I thin Wuk sounds best when she delivery Lyse's typical lines. The main issue of Wuk English voice mostly contained in line she does inside of battlesceen (her infamous line during the entry of the last trail still makes my ear bleed, used to it or not). But I feel perhap, being just "alright" in itself a problem. Wuk probably would be fine if she were a side character. But to be the main character of the story who has double presence of the next character in line, you can't afford to be just "alright", you have to be even more than good, you have to be great. Especially when she's being presented to an audience who have been used listening to theatrical trained VAs for the better half of a decade.


But I have to gush about the French voice, it actually floored me. I can't believe I'm saying this but ... the French VAs sound even better than the Japanese VAs for me. It's not just Wuk, but almost everyone sound miles better, especially toward the ends and during crisis, battles, dungeons .etc. The deliver has a sense of urgency that I feel sorely lack from the English VAs. Instead of the typical anime sweetie style in the Japanese voice, Sphene's French voice has a tint of ... majestic and regal to it. In another word, she sounds like actual royalty. And Wuk ... when she came in for the last scene after the final battle to bid us goodbye, she was ... good, Great even. There were an air of authority and maturity in her voice, it sounds like the kind of voice someone has after they have gone through great trial and tribulation. I had to pause and look at her character model and face again, and thought to my self "yep, this voice suit you well, you sound like a leader now!"


I still think Wuk's writing as a whole is so bad that even a god-like VA will not be able to save her character, but if people's first impression of her came from the French VA, there is a good chance it would have been less harsh. To anyone who have problem with English VA while thinking Japanese VA is too weebo for their liking, I highly recommend trying out French. You probably would recognize about half of the vocabularies given the similarity of the languages. If I'm still around when 8.0 drop, my first run will definitely be in French.

If you managed to stomach going through the MSQ 4 times in 2 or 2.5 weeks you are a special person indeed.

Hmm, I am at the hand in for the 99 trial and pushing on my limits even with Japanese which I have had on since the Llama Saddle, I'd not thought to try the French on Poochie, weird considering it's my husband's native language.

Thank you for the hint, anyway, it might give me strength to struggle those last few steps.
