That they need four hours on a weekend to fix a problem people are saying has been an issue for going on two weeks now is also an issue. Part of that, I'm sure, if the fact they go in bed with Microsoft to start. Every update has a massive scrutiny it has to go through before MS will allow it. That causes delays that normally wouldn't be needed, to get in bed with MS and now have to cater to 1% of the player base that's locked behind them was a bad choice. Again, all problems, choices and decisions are worthy of criticism.
Could it have been handled better? Maybe, but I'm not a software engineer or skilled in any kind of server system upkeep, so I can't really say one way or the other.

What I can say is, is that it doesn't matter that it's the xbox platform that had this issue. The idea of a sudden 4-hour Maintenace to fix a critical issue would be the same if it was playstation or steam or even something on windows. It's less about them punishing everyone for a minority and more just a platform being unable to even access a product they have as much of a right to play as the rest. There was outcry for XIV to be on xbox for years which is why they took the time to make it happen.
