It's annoying that it's taking until sometime in July to finally get a fix which it shouldn't have to take almost 3 months to fix a payment issue and make people have to find workarounds like timecards or other ways to pay a sub. I haven't been able to pay for my ff11 sub since April and had to buy a ff14 timecard just to be able to sub to ff14.

This is a universal problem with all US-based payment providers. Because of the requirements to charge taxes in other countries, service operators that operate outside the US are required to charge the local taxes, and hence make horrible decision that you must have an address in the country of the currency you use.
This makes zero sense and sounds like a bill of goods being sold to Square.

For the record: I work in the regulatory compliance sector in my day job.
If you want to charge local taxes, you accept the payment amount in the local currency first, apply the tax, then convert the total to figure out what to charge.
If you want to charge taxes on the destination, you convert the payment using the spot exchange market first, apply the tax, convert back to find out how much of the local currency to charge.
This is not rocket surgery, it's a basic script you can do in bash.

If Amazon can allow me to change addresses with a simple web form and order from sellers in Xianjing, any processor should be able to.

...must have an address in the country of the currency you use...
That also doesn't make any sense. I use my US-based USD credit card in Canada to buy things all the time, including online, including other subscriptions, and have no issues with my billing address being in a different country and a card being in another currency than the Canadian address I'm having my items shipped to/service provided to. An online-only multi-country/region service like a game subscription should be equipped to deal with this kind of thing even better.

The core address issue won't even be fixed in July.
Just one of the other issues will be.

There's been no indication that we'll be allowed to update our country in our address profile at any time.

Still waiting on any sort of official communication on this issue, Square..

I'm also still waiting to hear back on some follow-up questions from Square's data controller but in the mean time the data regulator in my country has advised that the GDPR 'right to erasure' is not equivalent to 'right to rectification'.
That means as far as I understand, if you ask SE to amend details and they ask if you are asking for the erasure of your data/ deletion of your account, that is not an acceptable substitute for data rectification.

    The more you know!

I wonder if this can be useful to pressure a response to the issue.

I've been talking about it more with other friends and I know one of them replied to a survey they received highlighting this problem. We may see more people affected by this that we can point to/advocate for/invite to comment in here, should they still be able, as folks continue returning for Dawntrail over the summer.

No other MMO games have this issue. If its regulations or whatever, then why this is only affecting FFXIV?

And you will not get one.

Nothing short of legal action will cause a reply.

Doing so will cause you to be banned for life from all square enix products.

    The reply will be no.

I believe as data controller they are required to answer my request if they are to adhere to GDPR rules.
I have simply asked for them to clarify what personal data is being used for payment processing.

Depending on their answer I will take it from there, and potentially follow up with the data regulator in my country.

I obviously do not want to be "banned for life" or cause issue out of malice. I just want to ensure my rights under GDPR are being respected and for people to be able to play the game.

And while the last says, strictly speaking, they are not allowed to retaliate... paying in dollars, and not having a US address, they'll ban you.
