Speaking as someone who tried to take this issue to Reddit, most were unaffected by this. I can try to dig up my thread if you'd like but I don't think Reddit will be the answer either. The copium I'm huffing has me hoping that Zepla did flag it at the media tour but the response couldn't be shared for media and PR reasons. Maybe Square is formulating a response/fix but want it ironed out before acknowledging?
Like I said.. copium.
Another thing I was wondering would be if it is worth sharing posts of people having sub issues due to this from place like Reddit? Especially as without a sub they are unable to post here themselves. It would also help demonstrate the scale of the issue.
But I am not sure if it is allowed to regularly share links from other forums on here?
I tried Reddit too and they basically told me to shut up and stop blaming SE or all but accused my friend of lying because they weren’t having problems so my friend must not either.
Please, keep pushing on this. It looks like few people are suffering from this issue because the ones who can’t pay their sub quite literally cannot post here to say so and represent themselves. This cannot be allowed to be swept under a rug. A huge company like SE should not be using such out of date account systems and needs to be held accountable for screwing over a portion of their players, and for the utterly atrocious customer support that has amounted to saying “don’t care, get lost, thanks for the support over a decade now go away”.
It's very out-of-date and I wonder if part of it is just that it's not an issue that tends to affect the playerbase in Japan as much, even though I have heard the odd story now and then of someone having trouble because they moved to or away from Japan for work or marriage and dealing with their account afterward became a headache. Movement between the US and Canada alone is not at all unheard of - when I was moving up, I got plenty of advice from just people in my spouse's social circles who had moved for relationships before me - and European countries are smaller so that it's barely even unusual to end up somewhere else for love or career. Then there's situations like Zepla's which undoubtedly affected others as well who are just not public faces. At the very least being able to change country within your base region should be simple and straightforward. I'd be happy to provide support with evidence if required, it's not like a country move doesn't come with lots of paperwork to show for it!
I actually find it quite ironic that at one point housing demolition was paused in EU due to the war in Ukraine. Because they knew that they would have players that were displaced and would have to focus on their personal safety.
But now, for all of those players that had to evacuate and have since settled in other countries.. they are going to be struggling to pay their sub.
Make it make sense!
I’m going to keep pushing this thread to the top. I know we’re near an expansion release so live letter news and such is at the front of most minds but that’s all the more reason this needs to stay active. People who can’t even enjoy that news because of this issue and still not even a statement of acknowledgment from SE.
Bumping this as well, as I'm likely to move countries in future.
I couldn't feel fully excited by yesterday's live letter again because of all this.
I was hoping it would be mentioned by YoshiP or Foxclon but I didn't hear anything. Anyone else?
Here's a bump to put this back on the front page. I feel it really needs to be addressed, for those who have or will have to move countries.
I feel like this right here is a prime example of the long term detriment that’s coming from the complete lack of acknowledgment. But I’m worried by the severe lack of player response as well; I feel like this issue shouldn’t be left to three or four people to desperately try and push into attention.
I'm hoping that player reaction will grow when other people who have 6 month subs will suddenly realize that they can't sub anymore, but eg for me that will be in September, so it might take a while.
Also, can free trial accounts post on the forums? Because not being able to report this if you're completely locked out is definitely a problem.
