The mog station invalidates any kind of "it destroys the job fantasy" or "it's deceptive" argument anyway.

I literally use the ninja glam (resshi costume) from the mog station on my tanks and healers even thought it looks nothing like the role fantasy.
And yet nobody has ever been confused about me being either a tank or a healer, so the mismatch between my outfit and my role can't have been that brain-shattering.

You can also buy a lord-of-the-ring-like ranger glam, a heavy leather armour (seigneur costume set) that screams tank, various robes that give mage and most importantly npc glams - some of which aesthetically relate to classes. Y'shtola glam? Black mage. Lyse glam? Dancer-ish (technically monk but let's be real). Aymeric? Knight/PLD. Etc. etc. And yet they can be used on anything.

We can already destroy job fantasies in so many ways beyond bikinis, funny costumes and modern street wear.

There is really no reason to keep these contrived class locks, that more often than not follow no logic related to hard class aesthetic anyway (see the examples from the nier sets) or are trivialised by lvl 1 glam sets of normal gear sets.

Oh and another thing, I'd like to point out that Golbez is originally a spellcaster, and we all know what gear he wears. I'd also like to point out he is a iirc around 9 ft tall and freaking RIPPED. Gonna try inserting a image from the FF wiki from Dissidia as another example.

(Thumbnail isn't working for me, but clicking on the image opens it up fine in a new tab)

Look at this man, he was a spellcaster in every Dissidia game, even here in XIV, though he's described as a Knight in Black in his intro, we still see him casting spells.

So even Yoshi P's point of plate "not fitting" is proven wrong by the very same game series as XIV! Like c'mon, if this absolute unit of a man clad in armour can be proficient in magic, why can't we wear plate armour too?

Golbez was also from an entirelly different FF game so that arguement is irrelevant.

So are many other things, yet those apparently are relevant depending on the topic.

As an aside, the need for unlocked glamours goes beyond just letting casters wear plate armor. I personally have no desire to be tanky looking as a healer, but I would love for my Dancer to have access to items outside of the (mostly) ill-fitting Aiming gear. And i know there are other classes out there that would benefit in the same way.

And even for jobs that aren't necessarily lacking options in their available gear, it would just be fun. Glamour is pretty big in XIV, I would love to see all the variety in outfits. It would give people a reason to go back into all those random old dungeons to farm up new gear that's suddenly available to them.

So apparently it was asked at the media tour about removing role restrictions on glam, and the response was they recognize that it's what we want, it's possible, but they have no timeline for it. So please make this a priority!

I absolutely understand not vibing with your roles typical attire, just plate mail for casters is the first thing that comes to my mind, haha.

Speaking of classes that could benefit, I main GNB, and by the lore, GNB's don't typically wear plate as the other tanks do, the exact reason slips my mind but I think it's something do with armour not conducting Aether as well as leather and that presumably messes with the cartridges.

So if you do want to go for a slick leather clad GNB reminiscent of Squall, that's also thematic and fitting in game, your options are far more limited as half of all tank gear is plate. Meanwhile, there's multiple aiming pieces that would work perfectly with GNB, the level 60 gear you get for GNB is a aiming set ported right over.

So there's even more arguments in favor of this beyond casters wearing plate, I'm sure you could make some fitting and thematic DNC gear from the abundance of dresses healers have too.

I figured that was the case! I just thought I should expand it a weeee bit as that tends to be one of the first arguments that gets tossed out against unlocking glamours: "A healer shouldn't look like a tank!", "what about job identity?!", etc.

And yes, everyone's allowed to their own opinion on this topic, but if that's the point they're bringing, I don't think it holds any water at this stage of the game. :X

And I didn't know that about GNB lore. Perfect example!

It's absolutely wild that Yoshi-P is giving answers that people have been pointing out massive flaws with for, at this point, years. "It would feel awkward if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor"? They can already do that. They've BEEN able to do that. With PvP sets, with the Law's Order Casting set from Bozja back in Shadowbringers, and with a variety of other outfits that - while maybe not full plate - are definitely heavy armor and are """awkward""" for a Black Mage to wear.

He either has somehow become incredibly unaware of what's in his own game since all the way back in Shadowbringers, to the point that he's talking about it with zero knowledge, or he's just knowingly saying things that aren't true to the game as it exists now.
Really, Yoshida-san, a caster wearing a plate mail is an issue to you...?
