Honestly i've only played a year and ninety percent of mentors were non talkativeI read a thread here from a couple years ago that people kind of hate mentors and if they have the mentor crown, it's an automatic bad sign to most people.
Does that stigma still exist? Do most mentors hide their mentor status most of time? Would be nice to be able to help new players, but not sure the mentor system really makes that possible.
Being told what to do in a professional way and a rude way are different things. Also, when it's a job or college they signed up for it and they know the person. In a dungeon they don't know these people or their intentions.
I love helping players and I absolutely hide my mentor crown due to the stigma. Because in my experience, someone wearing a mentor crown is far more likely to bring a toxic attitude relative to the general population of players. It's an unfortunate reality, and it certainly isn't the fault of any of the genuinely kind mentors that that's the case. But given that reality — not to mention how commonplace it is for mentors to abuse their powers in the Novice Network, or even threaten newer players by pretending mentor status gives them more authority than they actually have — it's no surprise that the crown has developed a bad reputation and puts some people on edge.I read a thread here from a couple years ago that people kind of hate mentors and if they have the mentor crown, it's an automatic bad sign to most people.

Thankfully, if you want to help other players, you don't need a crown icon to do it.
So you agree with me. Grown adults don't need to be coddled by bystanders when being told what to do in a non-rude way. Not sure why you keep bringing up rude/reportable behaviour while replying to me, since that's not what I was discussing.

Because in a dungeon it's virtually always presented in a rude way, or the person is a stranger and interprets it as such.
