My main takeaway is that as much as this forum is dead, the JP forum is even deader.

This. The Japanese forums are basically dead, and can't seriously be considered representative of the larger Japanese player base.

Not a good thing considering all the recent news from SE. Maybe news from the media tour will shed some light and move the hype train along because the live letter left that train stuck at the station.
