So is that perhaps driven by the prevailing attitude in English speakers that you should try to heal as little as possible and let people's HP get as low as it safely can? Or do the Japanese players do that too?

If there's a mismatch in how different cultures think the healer should be acting, I can see that being a source of them getting spooked, JP tanks ask for more self-sustain and get it, EN "calculated minimum" healers see this as a reason to keep the tank even less healed up, and it turns into a vicious cycle driving both role designs to a weird place?
