They kind of streamlined ARR, but really they just brought it more in line with the other expansions. You are still looking at over 100 hours from the cutscenes alone, not even counting back and forth quests or talking with npcs (to catch up to current)

well youre in luck all sskips are on Sale XD
The skips are predatory. When they were made, there were other options available. One option could be to shorten the story quest or offer in-game skip(WoW does this sometimes). Another option is to give players all of the unlockables from the story quest, and offer alternate means of leveling. But no, the choice was made, after the numerous complaints the devs must have received, of how long the msq is, they chose to capitalize on the players complaints.
"If you feel forced then you might want to rethink the mmo scene". Can you explain how this unique problem to FFXIV would lead you to this conclusion?
That would be a great point, if you can find a majority of new players who are excited to spend a month completing a main story quest to reach the current content. I am almost certain that such a majority does not exist. Does that mean that FFXIV is not for them, or that there is a problem with the msq, evident in the mere existence of 'skips', offered by the creators of the game. If the creators of the game have not only admitted to the problem, but capitalized on it, do you still think that msq is not the problem, rather than the game just 'not being for you'?
Please don't think I am being rhetorical, as I would like to hear your response.
considering the things i've seen you say on here i'm not at all surprised you skipped most of the actual game..... roflmao...I had that early on when I started 2 years ago, I did the entire ARR story and I was in the quests in between ARR and HW which is about 120-130 quests with no rewards at all, nothing of value, and I told myself nah I'm not doing this and I just skipped all of it to the end with a boost and level boost
It just takes way too long and if you arent interested that much in the story, its an absolute slog
whats the point in current content though? its new great, but so is everything else to the new player
Player
It's not so much about current content being better, it's about the MSQ restricting your play options. If all your friends are at the end, catching up to them is a long road. If you don't like how simple jobs have become at low level you need to progress through the MSQ to get them to a point where they are more enjoyable. Leveling isn't enough because you'll get synced for a lot of things and some job skills are locked behind expansions.
One big reason for wanting to do current content is the experience when it is current is completely different from an expansion or two later. From way more people to more refined/nerfed/buffed fights. A lot can change.
