Kyokuho's explanation in the level 65 quest seems to indicate that the charlatans are directly mimicking Kyokuho's grandfather's discipline for profit, not that they were a separate pre-existing one.Kyokuho himself in Hingan, but the geomancy he practices is closer to the original since it's legitimate magic.
