Welp, the Xbox version is dead in the water. What were they thinking?

Extremely disappointed about this. My partner and I are both console players. I upgraded to PS5 and they upgraded to series s after the announcement in anticipation of the beta and the full release. She's on PS4 right now and the PS4 version is really becoming difficult to play with the terrible framerate and load times

So not only can she not participate in the beta because her account isn't brand new. In a game that has had cross play since day one. But now she has to pay a second sub that she's never had to pay before on top of the xiv sub. Wow that is ridiculous and unacceptable.

No wonder they kept kept putting this announcement off. Could you imagine the reaction if they revealed these details at Jo or eu fan fest? They definitely know this won't be received well.

Sorry for a rant but I'm just extremely disappointed by this.

Consoles charging you to use your own internet is nothing new. I'm pretty sure SE made a deal with Sony to bypass that for FFXIV.

Guess they didn't care as much for Microsoft.

This, unfortunately. I have never understood how console players ever accepted this practice. It's possible that they attempted to make a similar deal for the xbox and microsoft rejected it.

SE shoulda rejected to port the game then but they clearly don't care about the issue as much as they did in the past.

Sounds like Microsoft being greedy.

They could easily remove the premium requirement to play the full version. The trial is the same game.

Heya I agree we both have PS5's but hubby has a Xbox and we where going to maybe sell the other PS he would use the Xbox. Thing is because he is not a new player he will have no clue wether he would want to be on Xbox....he was looking forward to trying it out. And paying twice is just beyond me I would never do that.

Not to mention a beta in xiv has never had this weird restriction as far as I know. Pretty sure anyone could play the PS3, 4, And 5 betas with established accounts. Please correct me if this is not the case. At least with established PlayStation accounts for the PS4 and PS5 betas for sure. Could pc accounts play those betas if they bought the license?

Just feels very predatory. It's not like this is some brand new game without an established player base. I'm sure there's lots of people in the same boat with old characters. Old character? Welp too bad. No gamepass? Well too bad. Stupid.

Also seeing people defending it on other forums and things like reddit. "Oh but gamepass is a good deal though!". It's the principle of the thing. Some people only play xiv or only want access to one thing. They shouldn't have to pay extra for something they don't want or need. Especially for a game that already has its own subscription service.

I probably sound like a broken record I just think this is the worst move SE has made in terms of this game in my ten years of playing actively. Can't believe they dropped the ball this hard.

Xbox and PC users pay for Game Pass because it's a very good deal that gives access to a huge catalog full of solid games. That's an offer that appeals even to people who usually hate subscription services.

Let's be realistic here. Asking those users to pay a more costly subscription to play one game was always limiting the potential of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox. This outcome is only marginally worse.

MS has a history of being very greedy like this with any games it convinces to come on their platform, but SE also isn't good at making deals in favor of their own consumers, just look at how their deal with Sony all these years has caused issues.

This is also why I hate seeing MMOs on consoles, neither MS or Sony can be fair about it, they have to manipulate servers and subs and if the game has real money items, they eventually end up being sold on their store as well. And this isn't me being malicious or saying console players shouldn't play or something, just console companies can never be fair and SE only cares to make a bottom line.
