Consoles charging you to use your own internet is nothing new. I'm pretty sure SE made a deal with Sony to bypass that for FFXIV.
Guess they didn't care as much for Microsoft.

Yoshida said on stage that was why it wasn't going to happen all those years ago. It has to be a mess up otherwise this is tone deaf.
"You haven't proven that it is safe, you've (only) proved that you can't figure out how it's dangerous."
This, unfortunately. I have never understood how console players ever accepted this practice. It's possible that they attempted to make a similar deal for the xbox and microsoft rejected it.
This isn't an xbox live membership they are asking for it's gamepass which is the service that allows you to play a library of titles for a subscription fee. The xbox equivalent of + is Xbox Live Gold.
Xbox Live Gold doesn't exist anymore. It was rebranded/replaced as Xbox Game Pass Core at the same price point back in September, with Game Pass Ultimate being the higher cost, more encompassing option. FFXIV on the Xbox will require either Core or Ultimate.
Which is now confusing me because I am being charged for game pass core for a year and also charged monthly for another kind of game pass for the console. Why name your subscription service the same as another service.
Do you have Game Pass for the PC? Game Pass Core and PC Game Pass are 2 different things as well, one exclusive to console and one to PC. Whereas Game Pass Ultimate covers both.
I do not have the PC version, or ultimate. I was charged just a few weeks ago for the yearly membership to whatever gold is being called now, and then also a monthy fee for the game pass library.
I was looking forward to playing FFXIV in either the living room or the bedroom without having to move my PS. I was even planning to swap and play primarily on the Xbox if the Xbox version didn't display my gamer tag to strangers the way the PS version does.
So much for that.
