Welp, the Xbox version is dead in the water. What were they thinking?

This bothers me. I lost my linked PSN account. Unfortunately, ticket after ticket won't let me recover it. I've made peace with that. Luckily, I also have an Xbox. Now I don't care. Good job messing that up. Now, two subscriptions are required to play on the Xbox unless you're on the Free Trial...

You really messed up on this one. I wouldn't be surprised if this is discontinued after a time.

Total speculation here - but wondering if there might be something more in the small-print?
Might it be the case be that 'exclusive Xbox players' may be exempt from the SE subscription provided they don't register another platform to their account?

For sure. Sony support was willing to help me 100%, but I couldn't remember the PSN name because it had been years. And SE would not tell me. I could prove it was my account and prove I was me, but they told me to contact Sony, and they passed the buck. Now it's my fault. I'm totally aware of that, but all I need is a PSN account name. Something you could get inspecting a random PSN player in game. Other than that, SE support has been fine. But in that issue, their system is really bad. You can't unlink it either, which is stupid. I'd have been fine unlinking it and having to rebuy the game on Playstation as a fee for my own carelessness with my PSN name. But unfortunately, it is set in stone.

Let's hope. Otherwise, it's dead. There will be those people who pay two subscriptions, but I can imagine it driving away the majority of new players.

Consoles charging you to use your own internet is nothing new. I'm pretty sure SE made a deal with Sony to bypass that for FFXIV.

Guess they didn't care as much for Microsoft.

I don't agree. Gamepass is great. Requiring two subscriptions to play FFXIV is not. I'm hoping they clarify their statement as they did before when they prematurely announced the Xbox beta a month ago.

Yoshida said on stage that was why it wasn't going to happen all those years ago. It has to be a mess up otherwise this is tone deaf.
