I understand that. I'm saying I didn't notice any difference in cloth and hair when I tested it. Perhaps there are other factors at play regarding who it impacts.

It's definitely more noticeable depending on which outfit or hairstyle you're using, because the physics in this game are very rudimentary to begin with, if they have physics at all. You notice the physics issue on hair mostly with ponytails and some long hairstyles, it also helps to be in a windy area to make it more obvious.
For example with the hair I'm using, standing on the Dawn Throne in the Azim Steppe it becomes very apparent how janky the physics are at 120 fps and how comparatively smooth they are at 60 fps.

Also another random but interesting detail of note:

FFXIV's built in FPS limiter is seemingly broken and can cost you further performance in CPU bound situations such as large gatherings or busy Fates.

Enabling a cap of say 60 FPS via the option in game can sometimes see your frame rate dip quite significantly below that even if you could otherwise maintain that performance without the limiter in place.

Let's say you normally hit 100 FPS but set the limiter to 60. If you hit a situation where your framerate would dip to 70 fps normally, with the limiter on, a CPU bottleneck can see you dip quite significantly below 60 fps even though you should have the performance to hold a locked 60 no problem. I did a dig into it quite some time back so I can't remember the specifics now (And of course there's a chance it could finally have been fixed!).

TLDR unless it's actually been fixed now, if you do use the built in limiter, consider using either a plugin, vsync or some other external utility, you'll get more consistent performance in crowds which will be a huge boon when the expansion drops and we're all steaming through the overworld or cramming around quest npcs again++

I'll give it another go under those conditions then to see if I can replicate that behavior.

    Square enix themselves notices it

    Update: Jul. 3, 2019 12:00 a.m. (PDT) / 7:00 (GMT) / 8:00 (BST)
We would like to explain why we made these changes to the frame rate limit.

    ■ What has happened?
With the release of patch 5.0, we set the maximum frame rate to 90fps. Unfortunately, this has caused issues starting the game for some of our players using certain monitor and graphics card combinations.

As the number of monitor and graphics card combinations is incredibly numerous, there were some variants which were unfortunately overlooked. As a result, this specific issue related to the core game system occurred.

    ■ Why did we limit the FPS to 90?
During the development of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, our goal was always to optimize the game to run stable at 60fps. However, in recent years the performance of monitors has increased exponentially and frame rates beyond 60fps have become more common. A very high frame rate can cause issues, such as the collision system not loading correctly; allowing players to fall through geometry, or result in actions not being registered correctly.

After thorough testing, we determined that the game is stable running at 90fps and therefore decided to implement this limit in 5.0.

    ■ Moving forward
Currently we are considering removing the frame rate limit from the game completely and to fix any issues that high frame rates cause in the game. However, this will require a lot of time to develop properly. Due to this, as some of our players are unable to play the game with the current 90fps limit, we will revert our changes to pre-patch 5.0.

This should not cause any issues. However, if you encounter any problems with the game, such as the collision not working as intended or actions not working, we ask that you fill out a bug report including your system information and as much detail as possible.

Although we made these changes to the game with the intention of optimizing and stabilizing the game, we understand that they have inadvertently caused frustration and inconvenience for our players. We'd like to offer our sincere apologies for this and thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the problems.

I had a problem with that a couple of months ago. It's what made me use the GPU control panel over XIV for Vsync and frame limiter.

Definitely. You can do the world-famous stair jump overflow in this game, I've seen videos of it a few years ago and I managed to do it myself recently in Mist. That will *never* be adressed lol.

It's only tangential to the conversation, sorry, but SE, can we please have proper anti-aliasing? It's 2024, we can do a lot more and a lot better than FXAA...

Some passive animations like "hair-in-the-wind" or "clothes-in-the-wind" run faster with a higher framerate.

    Cheers
