Sadly due to failing eye sight, I have more time on my hands now, hence why I miss the days taking in XI scenery.
The core game has so much story that it could easily be retold with an updated engine
I know a lot of it they blamed on PS2 limitations, but the story could easily be retold, heck they could even build it into XIV as a fan service, they are already doing a dawntrail XI raid
Just bugs me when people dismiss XI due to being old, a lot of the franchise is old but has been remade or remastered
Personally the reason I no longer play it, is paying a sub for a game in maintenance mode
I have so many fond memories of the game and the friends I made, who I still speak to now via socials
FF is the only game and franchise where I ended up making real life friends

If there was a demand for it then, I feel there would be a demand for it now. Sure some of us may not have the time (even myself, I mean I have work and family) to prog it every day but there are A LOT of people who do. Labor force participation is shrinking meaning more people don't work and get sustained by someone else, there are still plenty of kids and college students that don't do anything during the summer and for people like us we would just go slower. The disabled would have an easier time playing something like that than say.... IDK trying to clear a savage or ult where the pacing means you're always moving and pressing buttons really quickly.

I just feel a well executed, modernized version of a progression focused and slow paced MMO would find the same crowd of fans it did back then when the gamer pool was a lot smaller and had more challenges.

Given that no company wants to gamble though, I feel remaking XI with XIVs Engine and seeing how that venture goes would be a great way to save costs and try it out. Especially with the graphics update is receiving in 7.0. I mean XI fans would be over the moon with a nicer looking version of their MMO.

Or unreal, since they're using that over at CBU1, which ever proves economical and more upgradeable in the long run.

Do community reps or any square employees ever read these comments and pass along the information? I often wonder if anything is done with these suggestions, ideas and requests or if it just goes to a black hole never to be entertained.

They do read them and pass them along, they almost never do anything with them however, but occasionally they will take an idea and run with it. For example if you head over the to Hrothgar hair discussion there was a mod that asked for further feedback a while back.

They also implemented an idea suggested here about making the commendation screen show the character portraits instead of a list. Those are the two that come to mind. Rebuilding a game from a forum post? I don't think so.

Most of the people who can make any kind of actual decisions about the game don't really speak English as far as I know, so most of it is just screaming into void.

Just recently they took feedback on the new graphics update.



One was limbal rings I believe, and the other was showing darker skinned characters in the previews.

I want to resub to Final Fantasy XI, but the only thing that kinda bums me out is that i would have to pay for a separate sub in addition to XIV. I wish Square Enix, if they cant remake 11 now, if they can merge the two subscriptions, maybe a update FF11 launcher. I would love it if they did that.

Pretty much the only sensible reason not to play FFXI at this day and age (that and the terrible installation and account creation that is even worse than FFXIV's).

While I don't know if I'd *play* a release of a 1.x server, at the very least I'd like to see 1.x cutscenes added to the unending journey. Yeah, there's youtube videos with plot overviews, but the thing is, there's only one WoL I have any investment in, and it certainly isn't any of these randos on youtube. And because of this complete cutting off of 1.x, there were some moments in the plot that clearly were supposed to be impactful but kind of fell flat. I never really had the chance to feel one way or another about Louisoix. And the two times they tried to pull "OMG it's Nael van Darnus!" I can't say I was the least bit intimidated, because from where I'm positioned she's just another Garlean soldier.

canonically it wouldn't make sense for your character to be in a 1.x cutscene if you never played 1.0 because your character doesn't show up on the scene until 2.0 starts.

Near as I can tell, the writers eventually just threw up their hands and said that your character is 1.x's WoL, whether you played 1.x or not - probably because, having shut down more than a decade ago, fewer and fewer players are around who were there. The most recent specific example I can come up with was running a level 50 quest starting in Ul'dah where you are helping someone write a bio on Louisoix. It definitely was added fairly recently, since besides the fact that I hadn't done it yet, the reward is adventurer plate materials. And you get explicitly called the Warrior of Light by one of the NPCs you interview, in the context of 'people who were there'. (I think his line, paraphrased, was 'I'm surprised you're interviewing me, instead of telling him yourself.')
