Most of the people who can make any kind of actual decisions about the game don't really speak English as far as I know, so most of it is just screaming into void.

While I don't know if I'd *play* a release of a 1.x server, at the very least I'd like to see 1.x cutscenes added to the unending journey. Yeah, there's youtube videos with plot overviews, but the thing is, there's only one WoL I have any investment in, and it certainly isn't any of these randos on youtube. And because of this complete cutting off of 1.x, there were some moments in the plot that clearly were supposed to be impactful but kind of fell flat. I never really had the chance to feel one way or another about Louisoix. And the two times they tried to pull "OMG it's Nael van Darnus!" I can't say I was the least bit intimidated, because from where I'm positioned she's just another Garlean soldier.
canonically it wouldn't make sense for your character to be in a 1.x cutscene if you never played 1.0 because your character doesn't show up on the scene until 2.0 starts.
Near as I can tell, the writers eventually just threw up their hands and said that your character is 1.x's WoL, whether you played 1.x or not - probably because, having shut down more than a decade ago, fewer and fewer players are around who were there. The most recent specific example I can come up with was running a level 50 quest starting in Ul'dah where you are helping someone write a bio on Louisoix. It definitely was added fairly recently, since besides the fact that I hadn't done it yet, the reward is adventurer plate materials. And you get explicitly called the Warrior of Light by one of the NPCs you interview, in the context of 'people who were there'. (I think his line, paraphrased, was 'I'm surprised you're interviewing me, instead of telling him yourself.')
It's clear as early as that one airship flashback with Cid tbh. Because it doesn't matter whether you were there or not, he always sees you and then even says "it was you wasn't it" later.Near as I can tell, the writers eventually just threw up their hands and said that your character is 1.x's WoL, whether you played 1.x or not - probably because, having shut down more than a decade ago, fewer and fewer players are around who were there. I'd kinda like a "legacy" server where you could play a old expansion as it was intended in that server. (Not really intrested in playing 1.0 though)
obviously population would come up as a issue, but it's certainly something I wish I could experience.

Nah, but I'd welcome "hardcore" servers with no teleport system (only chocobo porters and airships), and far more dangerous enemies in every area.
With loss of exp when you die and all.
At least one of those servers per datacenter would be nice.
With unique gear you could only get playing those servers.
Characters created on such servers would not be transferable to normal ones.

So a big thing about stuff like WoW classic and Everquest 1999 is entirely because there are large sections of the playerbase that want to go back to those early years due to dislike of what the modern game is, add in some were also private servers that got official support. Now we go back to the subject of 1.0. a time where I have seen no one have nostalgia for, something people consistently say was a nightmare of a game because of how much content it lacked, it's disorganized story and generally just wasn't fun.
like there's no real reason to go back to 1.0, it'd gain more traction if we asked for FFXIV classic but it was original launch ARR because of how much of a nightmare 1.0 was. Devs don't just half-heartedly decide to nuke their entire game and change it entirely from the ground up, they did so because what was there just wasn't good.

Yepp, that is the main difference. WoW Vanilla was a game, which had a really huge fanbase. They even had very well working private servers because of it. I played on one of them. xDSo a big thing about stuff like WoW classic and Everquest 1999 is entirely because there are large sections of the playerbase that want to go back to those early years due to dislike of what the modern game is, add in some were also private servers that got official support. And this is not the case with FF14 1.xx. There is no fanbase, no good private servers, no talk about it on social media etc. I guess, if SQEX would publish a 1.23b server then the people would play it maybe for two weeks and then stop.
Cheers
Reminder that the reception to 1.0 was so poor, that the then CEO of SquareEnix felt the need to make a public apology regarding it. Stating that it caused "great damage" to the Final Fantasy brand.
No. You do not want this.
